CODE ENFORCEMENT SUPERVISOR

This is the third of three levels in the Inspection series. Incumbents supervise assigned inspectors and administrative support staff and perform the duties of the lower level. Responsibilities may include prioritizing tasks; assigning and reviewing work; reviewing and approving violation letters; responding to elected officials and citizens regarding code violations; approving work orders and contracts; and recommending structures for condemnation.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures, and maintains a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. Prepares, approves, signs, and maintains a variety of operational records, letters, reports, work orders, and/or related documentation regarding code violations. Receives complaints and/or concerns regarding code violations; responds with updates to these concerns; handles irate citizens and troubleshoots problem situations. Prioritizes and schedules daily inspections; determines future actions based on results. Confers with elected officials regarding complaints and compliance issues; determines what citations are necessary and what extensions or exceptions can be made; approves property liens. Conducts field inspections to ensure compliance with grass, junk, sewers, condemn buildings, and stormwater ordinances; identifies violations and issues warnings, notices, and/or citations to ensure compliance; completes follow-up inspections to ensure code compliance is met. Attends and participates in a variety of meetings with elected officials, management, property owners, and/or other related parties in order to receive and convey information. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
