Being a person without a disability will not impact your eligibility to be hired for this position.This specific job is open to all interested candidates, both people with and without disabilities.Peckham Inc. - Farm/Facilities Team LeaderSummaryThe Farm/Facilities Team Leader will assist the Farmer with growing, harvesting, and processing fruit, flower, and vegetable crops as dictated by Peckham quality standards as well as provide support and training to Farm Team Members. The person in this position must lead by example, maintain a positive attitude, and utilize a teamwork approach at all times.The Farm/Facilities Worker-Team Leader position operates during the fruit and vegetable growing season (typically March-October), as well as assisting the Peckham Facilities department with general building and grounds maintenance and snow removal during the winter months (typically November-February). Position requires Forktruck certification.DUTIES And RESPONSIBILITIESComplete all assigned farm tasks as a member of a diverse work crew, use knowledge of tasks and experience to show a good example to other Team Members with less experience.Leading work crews in tasks as assigned by the Farmer while ensuring that all Team Members are completing tasks safely and as assigned.Communicating regularly with the Farmer about progress on assigned tasks and any concerns about tasks or work crew.Start and grow seedlings from seeds, cuttings, or transplants according to the farm plan.Cultivate soil, sow crops and control weeds by hand pulling, slashing, rotary hoeing or spraying.Notify the Farmer of any plant pests and plant pathogens.Use an Integrated Pest Management System (IPM).Assemble and maintain drip irrigation systems.Construct wire trellises (frames) to support vines, berries, and fruit.Operate tractors, harvesters, forklifts and hand tools for harvesting.Clean and sterilize farm equipment.Assist in the maintenance and repair of farm buildings, high tunnels, raised garden beds, fences, machinery, troughs, windmills and other farm related equipment.Plant cover crops to control weeds and improve soil.Follow Peckham food and safety guidelines.Assist with snow removal and clearing of emergency exits and walking areas, spreading salt & de-icer on walkways, constructing snow fences.Assist with setup and removal of holiday decorations around Lansing area facilities i.e. hanging lights, setting up displays, following diagrams and verbal instructions.Assist with general facility maintenance including repair, cleaning and upkeep of fixtures, appliances, storage racking, and furniture, as well as assisting with the installation of said objects using hand and power tools.Maintain a safe and healthy work area and report any safety concerns to the supervisor.Other related duties as assigned.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USEDWheel barrels, shop vac’s, rolling scaffolding, folding ladders, extention ladders, power washers, scrub brushes, weed trimmers, lawn edgers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, push mowers, riding mowers, ATV, UTV, Golf Cart, Scissor lift, hand tools, pumps, sprinklers, shovels, snow blowers, salt spreaders, front end loader, skid loader, tractors, tractor drawn equipment, and self-propelled equipment to plow, harrow, and fertilize soil and to plant, cultivate, spray, and harvest crops.Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
