Controller
Position Overview
Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Controller on behalf of a mission-driven nonprofit organization serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This full-time, direct-hire, hybrid opportunity is located near SeaTac, WA, and the Controller serves as the organization's lead accounting professional, overseeing all day-to-day financial operations.
The role is a hands-on leadership position responsible for the full accounting cycle, including transaction processing, reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit coordination. The Controller prepares accurate and timely financial statements, presents financial results to leadership and the Board of Directors, and partners closely with a fractional CFO on compliance, grant reporting, and financial strategy. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented nonprofit accounting leader who enjoys both operational accounting and mission-focused collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and execute the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close
Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and internal reports
Produce financial reporting for leadership and present financial results to the Board of Directors
Lead the annual audit process and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
Support grant compliance and reporting, including restricted funds tracking and documentation
Partner with the fractional CFO on budgeting, compliance, and financial strategy
Maintain strong internal controls and ensure adherence to GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
Monitor cash flow, accounts payable/receivable, and operational financial processes
Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and regulatory reporting requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred)
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit accounting
Experience managing the full accounting cycle and preparing financial statements
Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting principles
Experience with audits, grant compliance, and board reporting
Compensation & Benefits
The organization offers a competitive salary range of $110,000-$120,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement contributions, paid time off, and opportunities for professional development.
