Service Engineer/Specialist - Manassas, VA

TRC Talent Solutions is partnering with a controls and automation organization seeking a Service Engineer / Specialist to support the reliability and lifecycle performance of mission-critical control systems. This role is heavily focused on field service, system uptime, and rapid issue resolution, with additional support for implementation, upgrades, and commissioning activities.SummaryThe Service Engineer / Specialist is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing control systems in 24/7 operational environments. The role ensures system reliability through proactive maintenance, SLA-driven incident response, and continuous performance improvement. In addition, the position supports project execution activities including system configuration, startup, and customer-facing technical support.ResponsibilitiesInspect, maintain, and update control systems in active environmentsDiagnose and resolve control system issues and implement performance improvementsMonitor service channels (phone, email, ticketing systems) and respond to incidents within SLA requirementsTrack KPIs and collaborate with internal teams for rapid issue resolutionProvide ongoing technical support to ensure system uptime and reliabilityParticipate in 24/7 on-call rotation and respond to urgent system failures as neededReview P&IDs and develop instrumentation listsPrepare technical documentation and system recordsConfigure HMI screens and PLC/DDC/DCS control logicSupport system networking, integration, and configuration activitiesAssist with onsite startup, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioningSupport customer training and operational handoverProvide technical input during customer and sales discussionsSupport identification of additional service opportunities within accountsRequirementsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in industrial or building automation environmentsExperience with one or more of the following platforms:Tridium Niagara N4Distech (BACnet, LON, Eclypse Controllers)Johnson Controls (Metasys, Facility Explorer)Siemens (Apogee, Talon, DXR, Desigo CC/Insight)Rockwell Automation (FactoryTalk, RSLogix/Studio 5000, PlantPAx)Understanding of HVAC systems, P&IDs, and functional testingExperience troubleshooting live control systems in operational environmentsWillingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotationTRC Talent Solutions is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
