Instructor, Aspire Program

Description There are three available positions for Instructor for the Aspire Programs to primarily teach English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). The Instructors are responsible for serving as a liaison between the students and the Project Director. Instructors support, develop, and implements cohesive and comprehensive practices for the Clark State Aspire programs – English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and as needed, High School Equivalency (HSE) – through excellence in teaching. Within this, Instructors will participate in the recruitment of potential students, assist with orientations, and provide support in the maintenance of incoming data that affects the students time within the classroom. Instructors will maintain an active teaching load with a minimum of three classes, which may include locations in Clark State’s four-county service area. This position is funded through 6.30.25, with an option for renewal and is funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education that has been continuously renewed at Clark State for 15+ years. RELATIONSHIPS AND CUSTOMERS Other Ohio Aspire (ABLE)/GED/ESOL programs Community Partners Staff at off-campus sites Ohio Department of Higher Education, Ohio Department of Education, Ohio Means Jobs, and other State Agencies ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Works as a team to review and implement open-source curriculum, course materials design and development; staying current with best practices and tailoring content to our current population. 2. Completes regular training for Adult Education Programs and English language learners and recommends teaching strategies to team members as appropriate with support of the project director. 3. Approaches teaching and administrating through a trauma-informed/responsive lens. 4. Teaches Aspire classes (primarily ESOL). 5. Attends all necessary professional development and conferences. 6. As appropriate, offers training on best practices for teaching adult learners. 7. Assists with new student orientation, assessments, instructional support, and onboarding. 8. Works with Aspire team members to ensure data accuracy. 9. Assists with administrative duties as assigned. 10. Assists the Project Director in leading staff meetings and in-house retreats as needed. 11. All other duties assigned by supervisor. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in education or closely related field required, master’s preferred Minimum of three years’ experience classroom teaching Experience with remedial curriculum instruction and development Effective in supporting English language learners and adult learners SKILLS AND ABILITIES Experience working collaboratively in a group/team environment Ability to work effectively with people (students, staff, faculty, college leaders) Ability to identify and solve problems; excellent oral and written communication skills Computer proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, and presentation software Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume and fluid environment, serving populations with varied skills and needs LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, faculty, and students. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is performed in an office-like environment with a minimal amount of noise.
