The developers in the DLD team collaborate with instructional designers, technologists, and IU faculty to design, build, and enhance online instructional experiences that meet accessibility standards and leverage best practices in instructional design. Team members often work in distributed environments, collaborating across campuses in Bloomington, Indianapolis, and beyond.\n\nJob Summary\n\nDepartment Specific Responsibilities\n\nProvides an exciting and rewarding opportunity to develop web-based solutions that are integral to the core mission of student success at Indiana University.\nWorks in partnership with IU faculty, instructional designers/technologists, and LMS administrators.\nPlays a crucial role in the design, development, and deployment of web applications that integrate with the IU eLearning ecosystem.\n\nGeneral Responsibilities\n\nDevelops high-performing websites and web applications, including building and implementing back-end (APIs, databases) and front end (interfaces, web-based tools) solutions.\nConsults with stakeholders and/or web administrator to review existing websites/webpages; develops new functionality and/or codes necessary web changes.\nDevelops data structures, web tools and programs while taking into consideration multi-browser and mobile compatibility and performance.\nDocuments website and web application development efforts (changes, new functionality, issue/problem resolution).\nTests website and web application performance and functionality, performs quality assurance checks, and fixes bugs accordingly.\nActs as a liaison between design/creative teams and stakeholders to ensure optimum functionality, performance, accessibility, scalability, and security of websites and web applications.\nEnsures that all protocols used in the development and maintenance of websites are up to date and compliant with university policies and standards; researches and stays up-to-date on new industry web standards, emerging media technology, UX/UI design/philosophy, and accessibility standards.\n\nQualifications\n\nCombinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.\n\nEDUCATION\n\nRequired\n\nBachelor's degree (preferably in Computer Science or related field.)\n\nWORK EXPERIENCE\n\nRequired\n\n2 years of full stack web development or related experience.\n\nSKILLS\n\nRequired\n\nProficient written and verbal communication skills.\nMaintains a high degree of professionalism.\nDemonstrates time management and priority setting skills.\nDemonstrates a high commitment to quality.\nPossesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.\nSeeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty.\nHighly thorough and dependable.\nDemonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure.\nAbility to audit and perform updates to developed code systems and projects.\nAbility to contribute to related file repositories and communicate with peers to ensure project success.\nStrong understanding of related policy and standards.\nStrong ability to read and write code in HTML,CSS, JS.\nAbility to work on developed common JS frameworks and consult on UX related projects.\nAbility to integrate advanced protocol interfaces (API).\nStrong ability to code in logical dynamic language.\nAbility to write complex relational database schema.\nAbility to audit and develop systems of applications.\n\nPreferred\n\nDemonstrated proficiency in back-end application development; experience with MVC frameworks, PHP/Laravel preferred.\nDemonstrated proficiency in modern front-end development frameworks such as Angular, Vue, or similar.\nAdvanced knowledge of JavaScript/jQuery.\nExperience with cloud-based application deployment, such as AWS, GCP, or similar.\nExperience with containerized applications (Docker).\nExperience in the design, development, and consumption of REST APIs.\nLatest HTML5/CSS/JS web development techniques including responsive and mobile-first design.\nExperience working with Learning Management Systems, particularly Canvas.\nKnowledge of IMS Global initiatives, such Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI), Question and Test Interoperability (QTI), Caliper Analytics, etc.\nExperience integrating AI-based web application features; familiar with the use of AI assistance in coding practices.\nPrior development of browser-based interactive activities and/or games.\nExperience with the Adobe Creative Suite.\nHTML5 frameworks such as Rivet, Bootstrap, Foundation, or similar.\n\nWorking Conditions / Demands\n\nThis role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
