Our rich diversity of people and ideas makes us a stronger, more innovative organization.\n\nJob Summary\nThe Pipe Layer is responsible for assessing the ground conditions, digging trenches, assembling pipes, and laying pipes in accordance with city ordinates. You may also be required to remove old piping systems, seal joins, and install auxiliary lines.\nResponsibilities:\nMeasuring and configuring pipe routes.\nGathering material and installation tools.\nDigging trenches using hand and machine trenching tools.\nLocating installed piping systems using magnetic or radio indicators.\nRemoving old or broken piping systems.\nLaying pipes into trenches and applying pipe spacers.\nChecking pipe alignment and sealing pipes with cement glue.\nInstalling auxiliary lines.\nSealing exposed pipe joints and fittings.\nFilling and sealing pipe trenches.\nPerform other duties as required and/or assigned.\nQualifications:\nMinimum\nHigh school diploma or GED.\nProven work experience as a pipe layer.\nDetailed knowledge of construction and pipe fitting techniques.\nKnowledge of sewer systems, storm drains, and water mains.\nExperience with machine-operated trenching tools.\nAbility to read and interpret blueprints and city maps.\nExcellent physical fitness with the ability to lift heavy objects.\nGood communication skills.\nAbility to work outdoors in harsh weather conditions.\nPreferred\n3 or more years of experience as a pipe layer.\nExperience in water line construction and/or water utility industries.\nSpanish/bi-lingual\nPhysical Demands and Work Environment\nThis job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination.
