The Director will serve as a key business partner to executive leadership and the Board, ensuring strong fiscal stewardship and organizational alignment.Position OverviewThe Director of Finance and Operations is responsible for financial planning and fiscal management. This role leads fiscal administration and oversees accounting, grants management, human resources, payroll, budgeting, and financial reporting.The Director maintains accurate and confidential financial records and actively participates as a member of the management team to support strategic decision-making.What You’ll DoFinancial Management and AccountingDevelop, implement, and manage financial reporting systems with strong internal controlsOversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reportingLead monthly and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and audit preparationEnsure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)Manage fixed assets, including grant-funded assets and inventoryBudgeting, Forecasting, and Financial PlanningDevelop and manage organizational budgets and financial forecastsMonitor operating budget, cash flow, and grant fundingProvide timely financial insights to executive leadership and the Board of DirectorsCash Management and Financial OperationsOversee banking relationships and financial institution partnershipsManage deposits, cash flow, and financial transactions across programsReview accounts payable and receivable for accuracy and timelinessTrack and invoice investors, public entities, and program participantsPayroll and Benefits AdministrationManage payroll functions, including timekeeping and coordination with a Professional Employer Organization (PEO)Oversee retirement plan administration and complianceGrant and Compliance ManagementEnsure compliance with grant requirements, including reporting and invoicingPartner with auditors for annual IRS Form 990 and audit processesHuman Resources and Organizational AdministrationOversee recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, and employee relationsSupport performance management and organizational development initiativesRisk Management and OperationsPartner with executive leadership on risk management and complianceOversee facilities, procurement, and IT vendor relationshipsLeadership and RepresentationRepresent the organization with stakeholders, community leaders, and partnersProvide financial strategy and insights to the Board of DirectorsWhat You BringStrong executive presence with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levelsExceptional organizational and time management capabilitiesAbility to operate independently and manage competing prioritiesHigh level of discretion, professionalism, and confidentialityProficiency in QuickBooks and accounting systemsAdvanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, Adobe, and related tools)Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilitiesEffective written and verbal communication skillsUnderstanding of business operations and nonprofit financial structuresGrant management experience preferredBachelor’s degree or higher in business, finance, accounting, economics, or related fieldMinimum of five years of progressive experience, preferably in a nonprofit environmentStrong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial managementExperience with grant funding, compliance, and reporting.What We OfferCompetitive Pay—Compensation is based on experience and qualifications. $95,000 - $110,000 annuallyHealth Benefits—Medical, vision, and dental coverage are available beginning the first month following 30 days of continuous full-time employment.Retirement Plan—401(k) option available after 12 months of service from the hire date.Location & Work Flexibility—Position based in Modesto, CA, with hybrid work arrangements permitted.Paid Time Off—Generous PTO policy to support work-life balance.Wellness Program—Access to programs promoting physical and mental well-being.Volunteer Program—Opportunities to participate in community volunteer initiatives.This is a compelling opportunity to play a meaningful role in advancing the growth and long-term success of small businesses across the region.
