The position requires strong hands-on lab experience, troubleshooting capability, and working knowledge of fire alarm systems and regulatory requirements.\nThe ideal candidate can own test assignments end-to-end, contribute to product quality and compliance, and collaborate effectively with engineering teams.\nKey Responsibilities\n\nProduct Testing Strategy & Ownership\nLead validation strategy and execution for:\nFire detection devices (smoke, heat, CO)\n\nNotification appliances (horns, strobes, speakers)\n\nOwn test plans from concept through certification and release\n\nInterpret product requirements and specifications to define comprehensive validation coverage\n\nDrive improvements to test methodologies, efficiency, and data quality\n\nAdvanced Test Execution & Analysis\nConduct and oversee complex testing using:\nSmoke boxes, heat tunnels, CO chambers\n\nEnvironmental chambers and advanced electrical test equipment\n\nValidate:\nDetection performance and response algorithms\n\nEnvironmental robustness and reliability\n\nAudible (dBA) and visual (candela) performance\n\nPerform deep data analysis, trend identification, and statistical evaluation\n\nDeliver clear, actionable reports and recommendations to engineering leadership\n\nTechnical Troubleshooting & Root Cause Leadership\nLead root cause investigations for product and system-level issues\n\nPartner with design engineering to resolve complex failures and improve designs\n\nProvide technical guidance on failure modes, test anomalies, and corrective actions\n\nMentor junior engineers and technicians in troubleshooting methodologies\n\nCompliance & Certification Leadership\nServe as a subject matter expert for regulatory compliance, including:\n\nUL, ULC, FM, CSFM, FCC, CE, EN-54, CCCF\n\nLead certification efforts and engagement with external agencies\n\nUL CTDP, FM LabQual, and similar programs\n\nLead expansion of current UL CTDP and LabQual programs\n\nEnsure documentation, test execution, and data packages meet certification standards\n\n️ Lab Leadership & Continuous Improvement\nOversee lab setup, capability expansion, and equipment optimization\n\nDrive improvements in:\nLab processes and safety\n\nTest automation opportunities\n\nInstrumentation and measurement accuracy\n\nEnsure high standards for data integrity, traceability, and documentation\n\nCross-Functional Leadership\nAct as a key interface between Test, Design Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing\n\nInfluence product design decisions based on validation insights\n\nLead test planning and execution timelines aligned with project milestones\n\nTrack work, defects, and priorities using JIRA or similar tools\n\nBasic Qualifications\n\nBachelor’s Degree\n5+ years of testing /validation experience\n5+ years of Fire Alarm System installation experience\n5+ years of experience working in an engineering test lab and testing various electrical devices and components\nPreferred Qualifications\n\nB.A./ B.S. in Electronics Technology, Lab technician, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 2 years of related experience preferred\nExperience with JIRA software\nKnowledge of the fire and safety industry\nUnderstanding of how to use sound measurements, light measurements, smoke tunnels, fire test rooms, smoke boxes, heat tunnels, CO chambers, etc\nGeneral understanding of engineering equipment like soldering irons, hand-held power tools\nExcellent self-task management/prioritization and documentation skills in a R&D or testing lab environment\nUnderstands how to read and interpret schematics\nBasic knowledge of low voltage electronics\nExpert on Microsoft Office (especially Excel and macros in Excel)\nDemonstrated analytical and problem solving skills with little to no supervision\nInterpersonal skills to work with several departments, including engineering and production\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills\nAbility to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation\nOn occasions, this role will be required to climb ladders and stairs with or without reasonable accommodations\nMust be authorized to work in the U.S.A. without restrictions\nCompensation and Benefits\nIndividuals may be eligible for an annual performance bonus based on both individual and company’s performance.
