Civil Engineer
Job Description:This position supports the closure, remediation, and long‑term management of former and retiring coal‑fired power plant sites. The work focuses on coal ash, contaminated soils, and associated civil/environmental issues to bring facilities into a safe, compliant, long‑term final state aligned with regulatory requirements.You will join an expanding project team working on a 10‑year+ portfolio of remediation, demolition, and reconstruction projects linked to the broader transition from coal to cleaner energy sources.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport planning, execution, and oversight of closure and remediation projects.Participate across the full project lifecycle: scoping, procurement support, execution, and field inspections.Coordinate with internal environmental teams, project managers, consultants, and contractors.Perform field visits and site inspections (~40% travel once fully ramped).Maintain compliance with environmental regulations, safety, and company policies.Use tools including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and Google Earth for planning and documentation.Required QualificationsABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.Approximately 5–15 years of relevant experience /2–4 years of highly relevant experience considered.Experience with environmental regulations through a regulator, consulting firm, or owner/operator.Background in soils, earthwork, coal ash, contaminated soils, or industrial/utility civil projects.Preferred QualificationsExperience with power plant or industrial site closure and remediation.Experience with environmental consulting firms or civil remediation contractors.FE and/or PE preferred (not required).Skills & AttributesProficient in Microsoft Office and SharePoint; familiarity with Google Earth.Strong communication and collaboration skills.Comfortable with both field and office work.Detail-oriented with a strong safety and compliance mindset.
