Senior Backend Engineer – AI/Data PlatformA fast-growing, venture-backed AI SaaS startup is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to help build and scale the core data infrastructure powering its next-generation platform. This role will focus on designing resilient backend systems and data pipelines that process large volumes of production data reliably and efficiently.The engineering organization is distributed globally, with a growing NYC presence and a collaborative, startup-oriented environment. This is a hybrid role based in New York City.ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop scalable backend services and distributed data pipelinesBuild reliable ingestion and delivery systems for internal and external data consumersArchitect event-driven systems with a strong focus on resiliency, observability, and throughputImplement fault-tolerant infrastructure including retries, dead-letter handling, recovery strategies, and monitoringPartner closely with product, data, and engineering teams to support evolving platform and analytics needsContribute to technical architecture, code quality standards, and engineering best practicesParticipate in operational ownership including logging, metrics, alerting, and production supportQualifications5+ years of experience building backend systems or data platforms in production environmentsStrong experience with distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and event-driven architecturesHands-on experience with AWS services such as S3, Lambda, ECS, SNS/SQS, and event streaming technologiesExperience with relational and NoSQL databases including PostgreSQL and DynamoDBStrong understanding of reliability patterns including idempotency, retries, and failure recoveryComfortable working across Python and TypeScript environmentsExperience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical direction across teamsNice to HaveExperience with workflow orchestration and large-scale data acquisitionExposure to AI/ML infrastructure, embeddings, vector databases, or inference systemsInfrastructure-as-Code experience (Terraform preferred)Experience supporting high-volume data or analytics platformsComfortable collaborating across distributed/global teamsAbout the CompanyThe company is building enterprise AI software focused on helping brands and organizations better understand and manage their presence across emerging AI-driven digital experiences.
