This role builds the internal applications and data systems the business runs on, from gathering requirements to deploying to production. You will also run your own projects, including the schedule and the deadlines.\n\nWhat you will work on:\n\nBuilding internal applications and services used daily by staff across departments.\nDecommissioning legacy systems and databases.\nData pipelines that bring outside data into the OnPoint data ecosystem.\nAI models, retrieval, and agents built into the applications people already use.\nGathering requirements with each department.\n\nWho this role is for:\n\nYou want to own a solution from the requirements conversation through production.\nYou are comfortable starting from a problem that has not been defined yet.\nYou would rather talk to the business user than read a ticket.\nYou go get requirements from the people who have them.\nYou manage your own project schedule and deadlines without someone tracking you.\nYou have built complete applications end-to-end. You have personally written the user interface, the API behind it, and the database schema underneath it for the same application.\n\nWho this role is NOT for:\n\nSomeone who prefers to sit heads down and code all day.\nSomeone who wants a finished spec handed to them.\nSomeone who describes themselves as a front-end or back-end developer.\nSomeone who needs a project manager assigned to them.\n\nRequired Experience:\n\nSoftware development experience in a business environment\nAbility to build UI, API, and data layer\nRunning your own projects, including the schedule, the dependencies, and reporting status\nBuilding and shipping REST APIs\nBuilding end-to-end solutions with AI development tools (Claude Code or Codex)\nWriting SQL against large relational databases\nBuilding automated data pipelines that run on a schedule\nGathering requirements from business users and writing the specification yourself\n\nPreferred Experience:\n\nPython\nCloud platform experience, Azure preferred\nETL and data warehouse design\nRecord matching and deduplication on large datasets\nLLM integration in production applications\nRetrieval augmented generation\nAuthentication and access control\nSource control, CI/CD, and automated testing\nMigrating data and applications from an old system to a new one\n\nPlus:\n\nSQL Server\nData science or machine learning\nWorking with large consumer or donor files\nPII and data privacy requirements\n\nIf your background is project management and you are already building working software with AI development tools we want to hear from you.\n\nAbout OnPoint:\n\nOnPoint Data Strategy is the trusted partner for political and nonprofit fundraising data.
