The Barback is a high-performance, guest-focused support role that directly impacts the speed, quality, and execution of the bar experience. This position is a development pathway into a Bartender role. Team Members are expected to actively support bar operations while building product knowledge, technical skills, and service awareness. Barbacks are responsible for maintaining a fully operational, stocked, and guest-ready bar always, while contributing to a seamless and refined guest experience. This role requires a proactive, guest-first mindset, with strong anticipation, awareness, and attention to detail. Every action, whether guest-facing or behind the scenes, should enhance the overall experience and reflect Four Diamond service standards. WORK REQUIREMENTS:Responsibilities & Service Expectations Approach all responsibilities with a guest-first mindset, ensuring every action-whether guest-facing or behind the scenes- supports a seamless and elevated experienceMaintain a fully stocked, clean, and service-ready bar always, before, during, and after serviceAnticipate bartender and guest needs, executing support tasks proactively without directionManage and maintain all bar inventory levels, including liquor, beer, wine, ice, glassware, and garnishesExecute opening and closing duties with precision, ensuring full operational readinessChange kegs, restock product, and maintain all bar equipment to standardMaintain cleanliness and organization of all bar areas, including wells, coolers, storage, and guest-facing spacesControl bar flow by removing used glassware, maintaining organization, and supporting speed of serviceAssist with food running and guest support during high-volume periodsEngage with guests in a polished and professional manner when appropriateLearn, retain, and apply knowledge of cocktails, spirits, beer, and wine offeringsFollow all sanitation, safety, and responsible alcohol service standardsSupport all areas of the operation as needed to ensure seamless and elevated guest experienceService & Behavioral Standards Maintain a polished, professional presence that reflects a guest-first, service-driven environmentMove with urgency, precision, and awareness in a high-volume settingDemonstrate strong spatial awareness and control behind the barCommunicate clearly, confidently, and respectfully with the teamOperate with a team-first mindset while maintaining personal accountabilityTake full ownership of the bar environment-cleanliness, organization, and readinessDevelopment Expectations Actively study and demonstrate knowledge of cocktail recipes, ingredients, and preparation methodsDevelop a strong understanding of spirits, beer, wine, and bar operationsObserve, learn, and replicate proper bartending techniques and service standardsDemonstrate initiative, consistency, and readiness to take on increased responsibilityProgression into a Bartender role is performance-based and requires demonstrated competency, reliability, and leadership readinesSafety & Sanitation Standards Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free bar environment alwaysImmediately address spills, broken glass, and unsafe conditionsFollow proper lifting and handling procedures when moving kegs and heavy itemsEnsure all service pathways remain clear, safe, and unobstructedProperly handle and store all glassware, tools, and equipmentFollow all chemical handling and sanitation protocolsReport all safety concerns or incidents immediately to managementAvailability & Scheduling Expectations Full-time team members are required to maintain open and flexible availability based on business demands. Schedules are assigned according to operational needs, and specific shift or day preferences cannot be guaranteedPart-time team members must maintain availability for a minimum of three (3) shifts per weekWeekend availability is mandatory, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, as well as all holidaysAvailability must remain consistent for a minimum of six (6) monthsAny changes to availability must be submitted in advance and are subject to Department Head approvalQualifications & Requirements Previous barback or high-volume restaurant experience preferredMust be at least 21 years of ageStrong sense of urgency and ability to perform under pressureAbility to multitask while maintaining organization and attention to detailStrong communication and teamwork skillsDemonstrated interest in bartending and professional growthProfessional, reliable, and service-oriented demeanorUnderstanding of sanitation and alcohol service standardsPerformance Expectations Consistently maintain bar readiness, cleanliness, and organizationSupport efficient and high-level bar executionDemonstrate reliability, accountability, and strong work ethicShow measurable progress in product knowledge and bartending readinessContribute to a high-performing, guest-focused team environmentPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:While performing the duties of this job it will require: Must be able to tolerate temperature changes from hot to cold and cold to hot.Must be able to tolerate noise and vibration and a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, working on scaffolding and high places.Sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl occasionally.Frequently, use hands for keyboard and arms to reach.Must be able to exert physical effort in transporting 100 pounds, endure various physical movements throughout the work areas, reach up and down, remain stationary at times throughout work periods, and satisfactorily communicate with guests and co-workers to their understanding.Additional Requirements Minimum of 2-3 years in a full-service hotel, restaurant or high-profile bar.Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time.Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidaysMust possess a high level of high-quality standards & organizationComplete knowledge and understanding of the service industry, policies and procedures to include sanitation.Proficiency working with various computer programs including but not limited to Micros and Microsoft Office Suite.
