The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, government contract compliance, indirect rate management, budgeting, forecasting, and audit support in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer.\nThis role will serve as a key member of the leadership team and will be instrumental in building and scaling the finance and accounting function to support the company's continued growth. The ideal candidate will possess deep government contracting experience, strong technical accounting knowledge, and a proven track record of developing scalable processes, systems, controls, and teams.\nLOCATION: Fairfax, VA\nSTART: Immediately\nCLEARANCE: Secret (Must be clearable)\nKey Responsibilities\nFinancial Management & Reporting\nOversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and project accounting.\nManage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.\nPrepare and review monthly financial statements and management reporting packages.\nEnsure accurate revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 and company policies.\nMaintain compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.\nProvide financial analysis and recommendations to executive leadership.\nGovernment Contract Accounting & Compliance\nManage accounting and reporting for time-and-materials, firm-fixed-price, and cost plus, if applicable.\nEnsure compliance with FAR, CAS, DCAA, and other government contracting regulations.\nOversee indirect cost rate calculations, cost pool management, and rate submissions.\nManage annual incurred cost submissions and support DCAA audits and government reviews, if applicable.\nMonitor project financial performance, contract funding, profitability, and backlog.\nPartner with project management and operations teams to support contract execution and financial performance.\nBudgeting & Forecasting\nAssist CFO with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.\nWork with leadership team to monitor indirect rate projections and company profitability metrics.\nProcess Improvement & Scalability\nLead initiatives to scale accounting operations and financial processes in support of company growth.\nContinually optimize accounting systems, workflows, and reporting capabilities to improve efficiency and accuracy.\nDevelop standardized procedures and internal controls that support a growing government contracting environment.\nDrive automation and continuous improvement initiatives across accounting, billing, project accounting, and financial reporting functions.\nPartner with executive leadership on acquisitions, new contract opportunities, and other strategic growth initiatives.\nWorking with the CFO build a finance infrastructure capable of supporting increased contract volume, new business lines, and organizational expansion.\nLeadership & Team Development\nLead, mentor, and develop accounting and finance staff.\nFoster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.\nEstablish performance expectations and support employee growth and development.\nServe as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on financial and operational matters.\nCompliance & Internal Controls\nMaintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting and operational processes.\nCoordinate annual financial statement audits and tax engagements.\nEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements.\nDevelop and maintain accounting policies and procedures.\nMinimum Requirements and Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Accounting.\nMinimum of 6 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant experience within a government contracting environment.\nExtensive experience with Deltek Costpoint.\nStrong knowledge of FAR, CAS, DCAA requirements, and government contract accounting.\nExperience managing indirect rates, incurred cost submissions, and government audits.\nStrong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.\nAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills.\nExcellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.\nPreferred Qualifications\nCertified Public Accountant (CPA).\nExperience with Cognos, Power BI, or similar reporting tools.\nExperience supporting organizations undergoing rapid growth, acquisitions, or operational transformation.\nBenefits at JANSON\nJANSON provides a competitive benefits package with all the things we love and need:\nCompetitive base salary\n401K with matching incentive\nShort and Long-term disability\nLife insurance\nPTO\nPaid holidays\nProfessional development opportunities\nWe are committed to providing reasonable accommodation to qualified individuals with disabilities.
