The role offers significant autonomy, visibility, and opportunity to shape both projects and people.\n\nResponsibilities\nTechnical & Project Leadership\n\nServe as the structural discipline lead and formal Quality Control owner for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with AECOM standards and industry codes\n\nLead structural design on mid-size projects and major scopes on large, complex projects\n\nPerform and review advanced structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports\n\nProvide expertise in seismic analysis and retrofit design , including ASCE 41 , performance-based design, and complex lateral systems\n\nOversee construction administration activities including submittal reviews, RFIs, site observations, and technical issue resolution\n\nRepresent structural engineering in client meetings, interdisciplinary coordination, and design reviews\n\nLead and manage structural engineering teams (typically 2–6 staff), including workload planning, delegation, technical oversight, and mentoring\n\nSupport hiring, onboarding, professional development, and performance feedback for Engineer I–III staff\n\nServe as a technical advisor and mentor, supporting engineers toward licensure and future leadership roles\n\nFoster a culture of quality, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the structural team\n\nSupport workforce planning and coordination with department and discipline leadership\n\nDelivery Ownership & Business Support\n\nBe accountable for structural discipline delivery on assigned projects, including quality, schedule, and budget performance\n\nContribute to technical proposals, pursuit strategies, scope definitions, and interviews\n\nSupport and strengthen client relationships through trusted technical leadership\n\nAssist discipline leadership with development of best practices, tools, and delivery approaches\n\nThought Leadership & Regional Collaboration\n\nContribute to technical thought leadership , including internal knowledge sharing, white papers, presentations, or technical initiatives\n\nCollaborate with structural teams across the West region and other AECOM offices , sharing expertise and supporting complex pursuits\n\nParticipate in shaping regional technical standards, seismic expertise, and innovation initiatives within the Buildings + Places practice\n\nQualifications\n\nBachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited program\n\n8+ years of progressive structural engineering experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n12+ years of progressive experience\n\nLicensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Colorado or ability to obtain via comity within 6 months\n\nDemonstrated experience with IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, TMS 402/602, NDS\n\nAdvanced proficiency in structural analysis software ( ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural, RISA, SAFE , or similar)\n\nExperience designing structures using concrete, steel, masonry, and timber\n\nStrong background in wind and seismic lateral systems , including retrofit of existing structures\n\nProficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills\n\nAbility to perform site visits; valid driver’s license required\n\nStructural Engineer (SE) license, particularly in high‑seismic regions\n\nExperience with performance‑based seismic design and nonlinear analysis\n\nAdvanced BIM coordination and Revit modeling experience\n\nExperience with aviation, federal, or large commercial projects\n\nPrior experience in a team lead, supervisory, or mentoring-heavy role\n\nAdditional Information\n\nDue to the nature of the work, sponsorship is not available for this position.\n\nThis position requires a hybrid work schedule with regular in-office presence in Denver, CO.\n\nBenefits\n\nAECOM is proud to offer comprehensive benefits to meet the diverse needs of our employees.
