Mental Health Therapist
POSITION SUMMARY
POSITION SUMMARY:
Providing mental health and social work services assisting children, young adults, their families and the school community with emotional, social, financial and environmental issues that create barriers for healthy functioning. The Mental Health Therapist will work collaboratively with all members of the health team developing comprehensive treatment plans to meet identified needs within a healthcare or school-based setting. Mental Health Therapist professionals are expected to provide the highest quality of services in accordance with agency policy and professional standards and expected to work independently with minimal supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administer screening tools to determine need areas and diagnostic implications
Complete diagnostic assessment and intake screening to determine eligibility and treatment intervals
Develop individualized and comprehensive treatment plans for established clients
Be responsible for parent contact when necessary and appropriate; protecting client confidentiality while developing positive communications and relationships
Provide group therapy to identified clients, establishing number of structured sessions, documenting progress/regression, identifying and defining treatment goals/outcomes
Complete documentation as required noting progression/regression in EMR
Administer suicide assessments, create safety plans, and facilitate psychiatric hospitalizations
Provide clinical consultation, crisis intervention, and support to school staff.
Provide crisis intervention as indicated with established clients facilitating crisis supports after hours
Independently manage complex and difficult cases, utilizing strong assessment and diagnostic skills
Maintain client confidentiality per Mental Health Code Act of 258 of 1974, HIPPA and FERPA policy and procedures
Educate clients, staff, community and family members regarding symptoms of mental health concerns increasing awareness and decreasing stigma of mental health issues
Complete ESB following each billing contact documenting for insurance compliance
Report quarterly statistics of unduplicated clients, positive depression screens, diagnostic implications, including treatment plans, quarterly reviews and rescreens to Michigan Department of Health and Human Services promoting CQI compliance
Follow the rules and regulations for the social work profession as set forth by the State of MI, Department of Licensing and Regulation, and NASW Code of Ethics
ADDITIONALLY:
Provide oversight for licensing mandates and protocols for limited licensed positions insuring state compliance
Conduct biannual review of social work EMR determining conformity within current standards of practice, implementing corrective action plans when deficits are noted
Demonstrate initiatives beyond primary responsibility, identifying areas that need to be strengthen, submitting suggestions for improvements, taking leadership for mental health initiatives
Demonstrate professional expertise, judgement and leadership in managing a variety of program challenges
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires Master’s Degree in Social Work; Master’s level (fully licensed-LMSW) or Limited License (LLMSW)
Masters Level Psychologist
Master’s Level Professional Counselor from an accredited University; LPC or LLPC
Must be fully licensed or hold a limited license in the State of Michigan
New graduates welcome. Preferred; 3 to 5 years of extensive social work experiences demonstrating considerable knowledge of target population
Qualified to receive third party insurance payments for mental health services

Adaptability to change in the work environment, managing competing demands and ability to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
Proficient skills using Microsoft Office programs including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook required. Proficiency may be tested
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Prior to starting employment, the candidate must complete a satisfactory background check. The background check is understood to encompass all forms of pre-employment screening, including but not limited to: drug screen, physical, criminal background, Central Registry clearance, driving record, sex offender registry, education, training and licensing verification, credit check, school and employment records, home environment, personal traits, integrity and professional and personal references. Candidate must successfully complete an annual background check throughout employment in the position in order maintain satisfactory qualifications
Possess a valid State of Michigan Operator's License, an operable insured automobile for authorized travel, and maintain eligibility to drive as per the County's vehicle policy throughout employment in this position
Successfully complete all required training as mandated by the department and state regulations

Good physical condition which will mean the fitness to be able to apprehend and to exert the force necessary to implement physical restraint and management techniques to subdue and control individuals who require physical intervention
This position will require irregular hours and work schedules will include nights, weekends, holidays and unanticipated overtime
This position involves contact with people harboring potentially communicable diseases and is frequently at risk to exposure from bodily fluids. Tasks require the use of Personal Protective Equipment such as gloves and hand sanitizer
The noise level in the work environment is moderate with many interruptions.
Work involves an element of risk in dealing with the physical and emotional behavior of youth
