Key Responsibilities Product DevelopmentLead new-product development from concept through commercial launch.Develop commercial lighting, controls, emergency-lighting, sensor, and related electrical products.Establish product requirements, project timelines, testing plans, and target costs.Review prototypes, designs, specifications, test results, and production samples.Ensure products meet performance, reliability, installation, cost, and customer requirements. Engineering Team LeadershipLead and mentor engineers, designers, technicians, and overseas development resources.Assign projects and manage engineering priorities.Conduct regular product development and design-review meetings.Support hiring, training, performance management, and team development.Build a culture of ownership, accountability, urgency, and continuous improvement. Testing and CertificationDevelop and manage product-validation plans.Coordinate photometric, thermal, electrical, environmental, reliability, and emergency-runtime testing.Manage certification and listing activities with third-party laboratories.Support requirements related to UL/ETL, DLC, FCC, ENERGY STAR, and other applicable standards.Investigate test failures, implement corrective actions, and verify results. Manufacturing and Supplier SupportWork with domestic and international suppliers and contract manufacturers.Review product designs for manufacturability and assembly.Support first-article inspections, pilot production, and mass-production release.Resolve manufacturing, component, quality, and production-yield issues.Qualify alternate components and suppliers when required.Support product-cost reduction without compromising quality or performance. Quality and Product ImprovementInvestigate field failures, returns, warranty claims, and recurring product issues.Lead root-cause analysis and corrective-action activities.Improve existing products based on field data, customer feedback, and production results.Reduce product defects, warranty costs, and design-related failures. Technical Documentation Ensure accurate and timely preparation of:Product specificationsInstallation instructionsWiring diagramsEngineering drawingsBills of materialsTest reportsCertification filesEngineering change ordersManufacturing requirements Cross-Functional SupportWork closely with Product Management, Sales, Marketing, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain.Translate customer and market requirements into practical product solutions.Support customer meetings, technical training, field investigations, and strategic projects.Evaluate custom-product requests and advise on feasibility, cost, risk, and timing. Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field.Eight to ten years of product-development or engineering experience.At least three years of team-leadership or engineering-management experience.Experience developing electrical, electronic, lighting, or industrial products.Experience taking products from concept through testing, certification, and production.Experience working with suppliers, manufacturers, and testing laboratories.Strong understanding of product validation, quality, manufacturing, and root-cause analysis.Strong communication, organization, and project-management skills.Ability to work on-site in Lombard, Illinois.Ability to travel approximately 15–25%.
