Has the ability to work well without supervision and maintain supervision over others as delegated. Provides respiratory care services for adult and geriatric patients. Administers aerosol and oxygen therapy while maintaining charts. Draws arterial blood gases per policy and physician order. Provides care to ventilator patients. Assists in record-keeping and operation within the department. Participates in training and supervising new employees. Documents care given and maintains treatment records. Generates necessary documents for charges and record-keeping. Assists in the instruction of nursing personnel in the surveillance of patients and equipment. Performs pulmonary function tests and drainage procedures related to cardio respiratory disease. Provides assistance in cardio respiratory rehabilitation. Instructs patients and families about cardio respiratory disease and its implications. Makes rounds to check respiratory therapy equipment in use or on standby. Ensures completion of initial ventilator bundle orders upon initiation of mechanical ventilation. Ensures compliance with Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) bundle for all patients on mechanical ventilation. Identifies measurable outcomes and uses appropriate therapy interventions. Updates and communicates the diagnosis based on the patient's changing condition and disease status. Assists with maintenance and processing of equipment used in respiratory therapy services. Serves as a knowledge resource to physicians and staff regarding respiratory care. Assists in stocking and reordering parts and equipment. Keeps equipment clean and ready for use. Assists physicians with bronchoscopies and special procedures. Assists with quality control, staff schedules, and competencies. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
