This position is based at Instron’s Electromechanical (EM) equipment division located in Norwood, Massachusetts.\n\nPosition Summary\nWe are looking to strengthen the engineering group within the product R&D organization and havean opening for a Mechanical Engineer. Projects range in size from designing small mechanisms andtest fixtures to more complex full machine and system designs. In this position, you will beresponsible for a number of concurrent projects or tasks including customer research, design, build,test, reporting, and optimization, while meeting design specifications and the project schedule. Youwill work in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment with frequent interaction with othermulti-disciplined engineers, team members in other departments, and vendors and suppliers.\n\nPreferred Requirements and Experience\n\nBachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering with 3-6 yearsof experience in the design and development of electromechanical products.\n\nExperience in machine design that has incorporated machine elements, structural components,kinematic principles and/or mechanisms, electromechanical component packaging, design forcost, and design for manufacturability.\n\nExperience designing basic mechanical mechanisms and assemblies.\n\nProficiency with CAD and FEA design software such as SolidWorks (or equivalent), GD&T, BOMs, mechanical drawings, ECOs.\n\nKnowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, casting, injectionmolding, 3D printing, finishing, material selection, fastening, and assembly operations.\n\nAbility to contribute to and refine new design concepts by incorporating customer feedback,requests, and pain points.\n\nAbility to collaborate with other functional groups such as marketing, manufacturing, and service to incorporate their requirements into the final design.\n\nFamiliarity with design verification and testing activities, including setting up and conductingtests, data acquisition, data analysis, and documentation of results.\n\nBasic understanding of related disciplines (electrical, firmware, software) sufficient to supportproduct development.\n\nProven strong attention to detail, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, andthe ability to create, collaborate, and work within team environments.\n\nFamiliarity with the product development and launch stage-gate process, including contributingto deliverables from concept through launch.\n\nTake this opportunity to join a successful team where you can make an immediate impact.
