CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY The purpose of your job position is to perform direct patient care activities in a skilled nursing facility environment and ensure the health and comfort of the patients. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES · Care for patients with special needs (e.g. Alzheimer’s Disease) · Assist physicians and nursing staff with various procedures. · Act as a liaison between nursing home and other medical facilities. · Help patients with mobility, such as transferring from bed to wheelchair. · Provides for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding patients as necessary and ambulating, turning, and positioning patients; and providing fresh water and nourishment between meals. · Provide emotional support and companionship to patients. · Monitor patients’ vital signs, such as blood pressure and pulse. Assist with collecting patient’s history, condition and doctor’s orders. · Document patient care and report any changes in condition to the nursing staff. · Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients. · Follow established protocols and procedures for patient care. · Other tasks as assigned REQUIREMENTS Education / Licensure High school diploma or GED Certification with accredited training course through the State of California BLS and CPR certification Qualifications / Experience Experience at a skilled nursing facility Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language Excellent interpersonal skills, including customer service, patience, empathy and compassion Effective communication skills, including active listening, writing, speaking and reading comprehension Good collaboration and teamwork skills Fast and adaptive problem-solving abilities Keen attention to detail In-depth understanding of patient care policies and regulations Familiarity with symptoms and signs of improvement for a number of medical conditions Comfortable working with specific populations of patients, including elderly patients and those with special needs Working Conditions May encounter frequent interruptions May be involved with residents, family and government agencies May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses Physical Requirements Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day Must be able to stand, bend and reach throughout the day Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
