You will be the Tech Lead of the team, responsible for mentoring, onboarding, providing technical advice, researching new technologies and handling more complex tasks. You will use relational DBs such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL, and collaborate with various internal interfaces as well as B2B enterprise customers.\r\nHere is how, through this exciting role, YOU will contribute to BMC's and your own success:\r\nYou will be responsible for implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of system health for high-concurrency PostgreSQL database systems ensuring availability and consistent performance, supporting product development teams.\r\nBuild high-scale data pipelines and data infrastructure for migrating SQLServer and Oracle DB to PostgreSQL on AWS RDB.\r\nResolve database performance and scalability issues and implement Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.\r\nDesign and implement scalable database schemas and configurations, File system layout, Physical partitioning, Sharding and Replication, incremental backups, Restores, and recovery models.\r\nImplement High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for PostgreSQL.\r\nDevelop DevOps policies and procedures as it relates to PostgreSQL.\r\nManage PostgreSQL databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems dealing with upgrades.\r\nIndependently analyse, solve, and correct issues in real-time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.\r\nRefine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.\r\nAssist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.\r\nProvide on-call support, as part of team rotation, for critical production systems.\r\nPerform pre-scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.\r\nShare domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.\r\nDesign and implement a complex system to combine and merge data from multiple database servers into a target database.\r\nCreate complex queries to produce materialized views collating data from multiple servers based on which server is deemed authoritative for each record.\r\nTune performance of source and target servers to ensure performance is maintained even after replication/merge engine is added.\r\nTo ensure you're set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience: Strong experience with PostgreSQL, it should have been your primary database over the last few years.\r\nDeep understanding of systems performance in PostgreSQL, and advanced knowledge of Postgres internals.\r\nExperience with system performance counters and metrics relevant to the operation of high-concurrency PostgreSQL implementations.\r\nVery strong experience with query optimisation.\r\nStrong experience with Oracle SQL throughout your career.\r\nExperience implementing high availability systems by setting up either streaming replication or logical replication and decoding.\r\nExpertise implementing Foreign Data Wrappers to sync data across multiple PostgreSQL servers and advanced query tuning for large data sets.\r\nKnowledge on how to optimize queries/schemas.\r\nKnowledge on backup, High Availability solutions and strategies.\r\nAbility to troubleshoot methodically, identify and apply fixes for known errors, and when necessary, capacity to think outside of the box to resolve complex issues.\r\nNice to have Experience\r\nSpecific experience in complex large data architectures using AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and AWS data lake (S3 and Glue) with IAM roles and KMS key encryption.\r\nUnderstand automation concepts to speed up the work using Ansible.\r\nOpen-source contributions to PostgreSQL.\r\nOur commitment to you!\r\nBMC's culture is built around its people.
