The Professional Engineer is responsible for the design, review, and sealing of truss components. The person shall be motivated to generate productivity increases, enhance product quality, enforce design standards, and reduce costs through process and design improvements. Works under the direction of the National Engineering Manager in support of the regional design teams.Principal Duties And ResponsibilitiesFunctions as a Professional Engineer producing sealed component designs and repairs, and acts as an internal consultant in the areas of truss component layouts, design and repairs. Researches and develops new products or design methods to enhance efficiencies, product quality and productivity relating to components.Works with production to ensure proper Quality Control process and procedures are maintained for the production of componentsIdentifies and implements changes to the design process to enhance overall appearance and performance of finish products or design proceduresAssist in the development of operating procedures which maximize output, product quality, and minimize waste Assist in the training of component designersTroubleshoots field installation problems and determines best fit repair method to ensure code compliant modification while controlling expensesMaintains an up-to-date knowledge of all IBC/IRC codes, TPI design methodology and industry standards related to the building industry Implements and reinforces national standards across residential and multifamily teams to ensure best practices are followedProvide coaching, mentorship, training, and leadership to regional team membersCommunicates regularly with all design department employees to ensure all team members are engaged and working toward company objectivesCultivates and promotes a high performance UFP cultureEnsures training efforts are provided to maximize team member potentialAttend management meetings and prepare reports as requiredKnowledge/ExperienceBachelor degree in engineering related discipline or equivalentCurrent Professional Engineer licensureMinimum 3 years of design/engineering experienceExperience and working knowledge of national design standards and expectations requiredWorking knowledge and proficiency in the use of computer and business related software, including Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook)Skills And AbilitiesProficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing, and speaking Ability to successfully interact with all organizational levels and the publicAbility to organize and prioritize work, and exercise effective time managementAbility to communicate effectively with others including designers, peers, and managementAbility to work independently toward defined goalsAbility to manage several activities/projects at once, to meet deadlines, to prepare plans, goals, and budgetsAbility to work hours directed by managementAbility to pass a drug testConductGood interpersonal and communication skills Strong organizational and planning skillsSelf-managing; works well under little supervision Highly motivated and enthusiasticBe a team player and support the Company’s goalsConducts self in a professional manner The Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
