Assistant Safety Manager

At Schnabel, we combine technical expertise with a hands-on approach to ensure every project starts on solid ground.ROLE:Schnabel is looking for an Assistant Safety Manager in the Atlanta metro area to protect the most valuable part of our business – our people. Safety is a key part of our culture. We want to add another forward thinker that will keep our people safe. This position reports directly to our Safety Director. This role is regional and will require extensive travel to project sites. This is a full-time position with future growth opportunities.RESPONSIBILITIES:Work in a team environment to oversee and make decisions related to project safety, health, and environmental policies such as:Job site visits conducting safety audits on personnel, equipment, and materialsEvaluate, recommend, and implement safety procedures and policies for the benefit of employeesResearch and implement new materials handling processesAnalyze accident reports and evaluate injury case studies based on available factsPrepare and conduct internal safety training sessionsEnsure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (OSHA, MSHA, EPA, etc.)Research regulations and policies and institute changes to ensure complianceTrack incident metrics and apply findingsLead injury and incident investigations and evaluationsCreate Job Hazard Analyses for project specific tasks, review them with the project team and make any necessary changes as needed before or during work activitiesAssist operation managers with project specific requirementsTravel required, including substantial amount of field visitsREQUIREMENTS:Bachelor’s degree in safety science is preferred but not required1 year of experience in the construction industryStrong interpersonal and communication skillsKnowledge of OSHA, MSHA and EPA standards regarding construction Ability to train, influence and motivate team membersAbility to speak, read and write both Spanish and English preferred but not requiredSelf-motivated, great time management skills, strong work ethic and business integrityAvailability for heavy travel through ground and airSAFETY:Support the company’s safety and risk management objectives by adhering to established procedures, proactively identifying, and addressing potential risks, and contributing to the achievement of safety goals through the use of metrics and continuous improvement efforts.Don’t hurt yourself, don’t hurt anyone else, and don’t let anyone hurt you; a simple philosophy that has been adopted at Schnabel.
