Working under the guidance of Design Engineers, mentors, supervisors, and other specialists, the intern gains practical experience applying engineering principles to active projects while learning Fabcon’s design processes, standards, and products.\n\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nAssist with engineering tasks on assigned projects under the direction and review of experienced Design Engineers.\nReview contract documents, drawings, and project specifications to understand the scope and requirements of assigned projects.\nAssist in developing efficient precast designs using industry standards and Fabcon design and detailing standards.\nPerform basic engineering calculations, including applicable wind, snow, concrete, and steel calculations, with guidance.\nSupport the technical review of Fabcon shop drawings and collaborate with drafters and engineers to help prepare drawings for customer submittal.\nAssist production checkers and the engineering team with the timely completion and delivery of production drawings.\nSupport Project Managers, Construction personnel, and Design Engineers in researching and resolving project or jobsite issues.\nParticipate in project meetings, design discussions, and cross-functional collaboration.\nComplete assigned work accurately and within established timelines.\nSeek guidance from supervisors, mentors, and Design Engineers when additional support or clarification is needed.\nDevelop an understanding of precast concrete design, manufacturing, erection, and construction practices.\nOther duties as assigned.\nBasic Qualifications\nCurrently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.\nCompletion of foundational coursework in structural analysis, concrete design, steel design, or related subjects preferred.\nOther Required Qualifications\nStrong problem-solving and analytical abilities.\nWillingness to learn and apply engineering principles in a professional environment.\nAbility to manage multiple assignments and changing priorities.\nComfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.\nEffective written and verbal communication skills.\nFamiliarity with Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.\nPreferred Qualifications\nStructural engineering emphasis or interest.\nFamiliarity with concrete and steel design principles.\nBasic knowledge of ACI, AISC, IBC, or ASCE 7 standards.\nExposure to precast concrete design or the PCI Design Handbook.\nExperience with AutoCAD or engineering software such as LecWall, Mathcad, Enercalc, or Concise.\nPrevious engineering, construction, manufacturing, or drafting internship experience.\nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to move up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be provided when appropriate.\nAbility to work at a computer for extended periods.\nAbility to visit a manufacturing facility or construction site when required, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.\nWork Environment\n\nThis position may work in a remote or office environment that is generally quiet, climate-controlled, and equipped with fluorescent lighting.
