Mechanic

Position Type: Transportation/Mechanic Date Posted: 6/1/2026 Location: Maintenance & Transportation Office REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation ROLE AND PURPOSE: Keep the district's vehicles in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational problem. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Certification/Education: High School diploma or GED Valid Texas drivers' license Certification as a school bus driver Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of vehicle repair and maintenance Knowledge of tools and maintenance equipment and their uses Ability to stand, walk, push and pull, lift and carry, stoop, bend and kneel for long periods of time Positive results on the bus driver's physical examination Negative results on periodic random or scheduled drug tests Ability to follow verbal or written instructions Knowledge to communicate effectively (verbally) Ability to work independently Minimum Experience: Three references that have been checked and verified. AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 1. Present a positive role model for students, co-workers, and the community 2. Practice standards of cleanliness, health and safety. 3. Use safety equipment such as safety glasses and lifting belts whenever appropriate. 10. Keep in good repair all district automobiles, buses, trucks, tractors, and other automotive vehicles. 11. Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment. 12. Establish and maintain an efficient and effective system of routine automotive maintenance and preventive care. 13. Keep vehicles clean by washing, sweeping, and general cleaning. 14. Demonstrate proper maintenance, care, storage, and use of tools and equipment and materials. 15. Maintain a clean and organized work area. 16. Serve as a substitute bus driver whenever the need arises. 17. Easy to work with; does his/her share of work. 18 Get along well with co-workers and supervisor/foreman. AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC 19. Respond well to constructive suggestions. 20. Use materials and time to best advantage. 21. Is conservative with supplies/materials. 22. Is efficient and shows initiative in the job. 23. Plan for utilization of work to accomplish tasks. 24. Ask questions and solicit help from supervisor/foreman when needed. 25. Show respect and support for the supervisor's/foreman's decision. 26. Follow all safety codes and standards. 27 Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and State and Local Board policies. 28. Report to work on time, exhibit reliability for regular and overtime 29. Maintain a high level of good attendance. 30. Strive to complement CCSID;s total program. 31. Practice rules and regulations regarding Sexual Harassment and FERPA Laws. 32. Perform other duties as assigned. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Automotive diagnostic equipment; wheel balancing equipment; tire repairing equipment; small hand tools; power tools; welding torch; torque wrench; jack and lift equipment; computer and peripherals; school bus and district vehicles. Posture: Moderate standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting;work in tiring and uncomfortable positions Motion: Moderate walking; frequent climbing, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; moderate driving Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
