This role is ideal for a mid-career accounting professional who thrives with autonomy, brings strong process discipline, and is energized by building things from the ground up rather than maintaining what already exists.We recently implemented NetSuite, and a top priority for this role is optimizing our use of the system — cleaning up workflows, tightening controls, and ensuring the accounting team is getting full value out of the platform. You'll also play a key role in formalizing accounting documentation and improving HR infrastructure, as we continue to scale.This is a role for someone who can be handed ambiguous problems and run with them, who documents as they go, and who is comfortable operating with minimal oversight while still knowing when to loop in leadership.Key ResponsibilitiesCore Controller Duties•    Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis•    Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP•    Manage cash flow and treasury functions•    Oversee AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, and inventory/cost accounting relevant to OEM manufacturing•    Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for leadership•    Manage relationships with external auditors and tax preparers•    Ensure compliance with tax filings (sales/use tax, income tax coordination with outside CPA firm, etc.)NetSuite Ownership & Optimization•    Serve as the internal subject matter expert for NetSuite; troubleshoot issues and identify workflow improvements•    Refine chart of accounts, saved searches, workflows, and approval routing to fit the business•    Partner with IT/consultants as needed on system enhancements, integrations, and reporting including Salesforce.com, Avalara, Arena, Ramp among others•    Train staff and cross-functional users (ops, sales) on relevant NetSuite functionalityProcess Documentation & Internal Controls•    Update and maintain a full set of accounting policies, procedures, and desktop documentation (SOPs) covering close processes, controls, and system workflows•    Champion internal controls appropriate for a company of this size, with an eye toward future audit-readiness or scalability•    Lead or coordinate internal audits and process reviews; identify and remediate gaps•    Create a documentation structure that ensures institutional knowledge isn't dependent on any one personTeam Leadership•    Manage, mentor, and develop 2 direct reports•    Set clear expectations, review work product, and build accountability without requiring heavy day-to-day oversight•    Cross-train the team to ensure coverage and continuityHR Function Support•    Automate and integrate HR infrastructure: employee files, onboarding/offboarding checklists, payroll compliance, benefits administration coordination•    Partner with leadership and outside HR consultantsWhat Success Looks Like•    NetSuite is being used efficiently, with clean data and workflows that support accurate, fast closes•    A documented library of SOPs exists for all major accounting processes•    Monthly close happens on a predictable timeline•    Internal controls are identified, documented, and consistently followed•    The team operates smoothly with clear ownership, even when the Controller is out•    HR recordkeeping and processes are organized, compliant, and no longer ad hocQualifications•    Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA a plus but not required•    7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role•    Hands-on NetSuite experience required; experience implementing or optimizing NetSuite strongly preferred•    Experience in a manufacturing, OEM, or electronics/hardware environment preferred (familiarity with inventory and standard costing a plus)•    Demonstrated experience building or improving accounting processes, documentation, and internal controls•    Prior experience managing or mentoring a small team•    Comfortable wearing multiple hats in a smaller company environment, including HR responsibilities•    Strong communicator who can work independently and proactively flag issues to leadership•    Advanced Excel skills and experience with audit processes required","company":"Voltserver","rawCompany":"voltserver","city":"Warren","state":"RI","isRemote":false,"isActive":false,"createdAt":"2026-08-12T10:52:40.401Z","occupations":[{"code":"11-3031.01","title":"Treasurers and Controllers","slug":"treasurers-and-controllers"},{"code":"13-2011.00","title":"Accountants and Auditors","slug":"accountants-and-auditors"},{"code":"43-3031.00","title":"Bookkeeping, Accounting, and Auditing Clerks","slug":"bookkeeping-accounting-and-auditing-clerks"}],"industries":[{"code":"335313","title":"Switchgear and Switchboard Apparatus Manufacturing","slug":"switchgear-and-switchboard-apparatus-manufacturing"},{"code":"335314","title":"Relay and Industrial Control Manufacturing","slug":"relay-and-industrial-control-manufacturing"},{"code":"541219","title":"Other Accounting Services","slug":"other-accounting-services"}],"jobPosting":{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"JobPosting","title":"Controller","description":"Company DescriptionVoltServer® is transforming how power is delivered for high-demand and mission-critical applications through its patented Digital Electricity® (DE) technology.
