Senior Litigation Counsel

A leading international law firm is seeking a Counsel-level Litigation Attorney with 8+ years of experience to join its general liability defense practice in New York. This role involves handling complex, high-exposure litigation matters for domestic and international insurers, insureds, and corporate clients across a broad range of liability claims. The position offers significant responsibility, including managing a full caseload, supervising junior attorneys, and taking a lead role in strategy, client reporting, and case resolution.Responsibilities:Managing a caseload of approximately 25–30 active litigation mattersHandling complex general liability cases, including New York Labor Law, premises liability, catastrophic injury, transportation, hospitality, and negligent security claimsTaking and defending depositionsAttending court appearances, hearings, and mediationsDrafting pleadings, motions, and briefs in state and federal courtPreparing discovery requests, responses, and document productionsConducting complex legal research using Westlaw, Lexis, and NexisInvestigating claims and developing case strategy from inception through resolutionPreparing detailed reports to insurance carriers, insureds, and other stakeholdersManaging matters through all phases of litigation, including trial preparation and mediationReviewing and analyzing documents and evidence for productionSupervising and mentoring associates and paralegalsCommunicating directly with clients, insurers, and international stakeholdersQualifications:Admitted to practice in New YorkJ.D. obtained in 2016 or earlier8+ years of litigation experienceExperience handling general liability, insurance defense, or complex civil litigation mattersStrong deposition and motion practice experienceExcellent academic credentialsExceptional legal writing and communication skillsStrong leadership and mentoring abilityAbility to manage multiple matters independentlyAbility to interact with clients and build strong working relationshipsStrong problem-solving skills and strategic thinkingBenefits:Salary range: $200,000 – $220,000Hybrid working flexibilityFlexible paid time off policyAnnual performance bonus plus monthly bonus opportunitiesStudent loan repayment assistanceReferral bonus programMentorship and career development programsRegional and global associate training opportunitiesSocial, volunteer, and professional development eventsSix months fully paid parental leaveOpportunities to participate in client-facing and international programsComprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverageShort-term and long-term disability coverageIf you are interested in this position, and you meet the requirements of the role, please click "apply now" to forward an up-to-date copy of your resume.
