Our work environment is “fast-paced”, to put it mildly, with about half of our organizational time devoted to scheduled programming and half responding, commenting, and organizing in response to the constant developments in Washington and in AI news. What We’re Looking for in an ApplicantPersonal BackgroundYou believe the creation of an Artificial General Intelligence would be a disaster for humanity, and it should be our top global priority to stop it. You believe developing an AGI is morally wrong, and the people doing it are personally responsible and have a duty to stop doing so. It is not the fault of “the incentives” or “the race with China.”You value the democratic process, and believe engaging with voters and our duly elected government is the correct approach to dealing with AI danger.You are not afraid to stand alone on moral issues and support the tactics of PauseAI US which include: Assigning personal responsibility for building AGI, confrontational advocacy against the AI industry, public protests, working with a bipartisan coalition. You are rewarded by satisfying the mission of pausing AI development. We are here to save the world, not to make the most friends. SkillsYou have 2-5 years of experience in Grassroots Organizing with a similar organization or in a related profession.You are a skilled people manager, organized, supportive but also ready to discipline and cut ties with unproductive allies. You are familiar with the political and lawmaking process, and have experience with grassroots lobbying You are a skilled presenter and communicator, written and in-personYou are excited to take on a variety of challenges and opportunities that are not explicitly in your job description, as you will be the 3rd employee and responsible for unpredictable duties that will arise. About the JobAs the Organizing Manager you will be the point of contact and manager for our volunteers across the US. Your time will be split evenly across our core programs. Grassroots lobby organizing: Every quarter we host a conference (in-person or remote) to train new volunteers on engaging with Congress. You will be responsible for planning these conferences, training volunteers, scheduling meetings, and creating materials to educate new and returning volunteers on AI news. You will hold monthly workshops and serve as a resource to sustain these relationships.Lobbying strategy: You will work with the Executive Director to set our lobbying strategy. You will research relevant AI news and bills, craft calls to action for new and existing audiences, create and maintain relationships with Government Offices and other AI safety organizations. Volunteer management: You will manage our local groups across the country, providing guidance on how to drive grassroots actions, organize protests, and grow their groups. You will recruit, select, and train volunteers. A little bit of everything: Given the fast pace of AI development and our small full-time team size, you will have responsibilities that we cannot concretely predict today.
