REFORMER PILATES INSTRUCTOR
Position SummaryThe Pilates Reformer Instructor is responsible for leading safe, effective, and engaging reformer-based Pilates classes for YMCA members. This position supports the YMCA of South Alabama's mission by promoting healthy living and fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment for all participants. Essential FunctionsLead Pilates Reformer classes in accordance with YMCA guidelines and industry standardsInstruct participants on proper form, alignment, and breathing techniquesProvide modifications and progressions to accommodate varying fitness levels and abilitiesEnsure safe setup, operation, and cleaning of all reformer equipmentMonitor participants during class to ensure safety and provide appropriate feedbackRespond to injuries and incidents in accordance with YMCA risk management proceduresBuild positive relationships with members to enhance engagement and retentionMaintain accurate class attendance records as requiredFollow all YMCA of South Alabama policies, procedures, and emergency protocolsPromote YMCA programs and encourage member participation in wellness offerings Schedule RequirementsPart-time position; hours based on class schedule and member demandAvailability may include early mornings, evenings, and weekendsYMCA Competencies (Leader Level)Mission Advancement: Accepts and demonstrates YMCA valuesCollaboration: Works effectively with people of different backgrounds and abilitiesOperational Effectiveness: Follows policies and supports quality programmingPersonal Growth: Maintains required certifications and seeks professional development Current nationally recognized Pilates Reformer certification (e.g., Balanced Body, STOTT, Peak Pilates, or equivalent)Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hirePrior experience teaching Pilates Reformer classes preferredKnowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and injury prevention principlesStrong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills Work EnvironmentIndoor wellness facility and/or Pilates studioModerate noise level typical of a fitness environmentExposure to moving mechanical parts (fitness equipment)Physical DemandsAbility to demonstrate and lead physical exercises for extended periodsAbility to stand, walk, bend, stretch, and lift up to 25 poundsAbility to visually and physically monitor participants' technique and safetyAbility to respond quickly to emergencies. PRAESIDIUM CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION VERBIAGEEmployees and volunteers who directly supervise consumers will:Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.Attend required abuse risk management training.Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.Employees and volunteers who do not directly supervise consumers will:Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.Attend required abuse risk management training.Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities. Maintenance employees and volunteers-ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc.Front desk personnel-ensure consumers are properly signed in and signed out, ensures only authorized adults are allowed inthe facility, etc.Supervisors and administrators will:Follow employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers.Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization's progressivedisciplinaryprocedures.Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.Follow mandated reporting requirements.Communicate to all employees and volunteers the organization's commitment to protect their consumers from abuse.Report essential abuse risk management information to the board of directors.
