Our platform serves over 1.5 million workers and 375,000 workplaces across 100+ countries. We are backed by top global investors and recently achieved Unicorn status.\r\nAt Deputy, we're improving the world of work, one shift at a time, for 80% of the world's workforce: hourly workers. These are the dedicated employees who keep our world running – from baristas to nurses, cleaners to delivery drivers, florists to factory workers. Despite their vital role in society, most workplace technology has focused on those workers who sit behind a desk, but at Deputy, we transform the frontline. When businesses use Deputy, their workplaces thrive – the business is more profitable, compliant, and productive, while the workers are more engaged and happier at work.\r\nWe're becoming an AI-native company, a commitment that means you'll be empowered (and expected) to use AI tools and thinking in your day-to-day work. You'll have the training, support, and freedom to use AI responsibly and creatively to spark ideas, solve problems faster, and unlock new ways of working.\r\nIf you're passionate about creating solutions that put people first and helping businesses and their teams thrive, join us at Deputy and make an impact where it matters most!\r\nWe're looking for a Lead Web Engineer to help shape the digital experience of Deputy.com — the front door to our product for hundreds of thousands of visitors. Working closely with the marketing, design, and content teams, you'll own the technical delivery of a high-performance marketing website that drives acquisition and tells Deputy's story to the world.\r\nThis is a hands-on role where you'll build and maintain a modern, component-driven website powered by a headless CMS and deployed to the edge. You'll combine strong fullstack web engineering fundamentals with an eye for performance, SEO, and accessibility — and you'll use AI tools and Agentic development practices as a natural part of your workflow to move faster and deliver better outcomes.\r\nResponsibilities Design, build, and maintain components and pages using a modern SSR/SSG framework (e.g. Nuxt, Next.js), ensuring high performance, accessibility, and SEO best practices.\r\nWork within a headless CMS architecture (e.g. Storyblok, Contentful) to deliver content-driven pages, collaborating with content editors and marketers on content workflows and component design.\r\nChampion web performance — Core Web Vitals, critical CSS, pre-rendering strategies, image optimisation — to deliver fast, reliable experiences across devices and regions.\r\nYou define the technical architecture and long-term roadmap for Deputy.com, ensuring it scales with the business's global growth goals.\r\nYou lead cross-functional initiatives between Marketing, Design, and Engineering to solve complex digital acquisition and performance challenges.\r\nIntegrate and maintain third-party services, including analytics platforms (e.g. Datadog, GTM, Segment), consent management, and marketing tools.\r\nWrite automated tests (unit and end-to-end) and participate in code reviews to uphold a high-quality, maintainable codebase.\r\nIndependently drive a fleet of AI Coding Agents as part of your daily workflow — for component development, debugging, code review, content workflows, and performance analysis. You are not expected to hand-write code, and will apply critical judgment to validate and steer AI-generated output.\r\nYou establish and maintain company-wide software development standards for web engineering, including accessibility, security, and edge deployment practices.\r\nYou determine the methods and frameworks for new assignments, moving beyond execution to influence how work is approached across the marketing function.\r\nYou drive the evolution of Deputy's AI-native development workflows, setting the standard for how Agentic development is integrated into the engineering lifecycle.\r\nDeploy and manage frontend applications on edge platforms (e.g. Cloudflare Pages, Vercel), including working with serverless functions and workers where needed.\r\nCollaborate with designers to translate designs into semantic, accessible markup and contribute back to design system improvements\r\nSkills & Experience Bachelor's in Computer Science (or related) + 8 years, or 10 years demonstrated experience in high-growth SaaS environments.\r\nYou are a skilled fullstack web engineer with high standards and a passion for quality, backed by 3+ years of related work experience. You care about the details — clean markup, fast load times, accessible interfaces — and you're excited about using AI tools to amplify your work rather than replace your judgment.\r\nYou are customer-obsessed, thinking about how every page, component, and interaction impacts the visitor experience and supports the business goals of the marketing team.\r\nYou have strong proficiency in Vue.js or a comparable modern JavaScript framework (React, Svelte) with a solid understanding of component-driven architecture.\r\nExperience with SSR/SSG frameworks (e.g. Nuxt, Next.js, SvelteKit) and an understanding of rendering strategies, including static generation, server-side rendering, and hydration.\r\nDeep knowledge of modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript — you write semantic, accessible, performant markup as second nature.\r\nExperience with CSS tooling such as PostCSS, SCSS, or CSS-in-JS, including responsive design techniques (fluid typography, custom media queries, flexbox/grid).\r\nFamiliarity with headless CMS platforms (e.g. Storyblok, Contentful, Sanity) and content-driven development workflows.\r\nUnderstanding of SEO fundamentals — structured data, meta tags, Core Web Vitals, and how frontend decisions impact organic performance.\r\nExperience writing automated tests (unit and E2E) using modern testing frameworks (e.g. Vitest, Jest, Cypress, Playwright).\r\nSolid understanding of Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and collaborative development practices.\r\nComfort using AI-powered development tools (e.g. Claude Code, Codex) to accelerate your work, with the critical thinking to review and validate AI-generated output.\r\nExperience with edge deployment platforms (Cloudflare Pages/Workers, Vercel, Netlify), analytics integration (GTM, Segment, Datadog), or monorepo tooling is a plus.\r\nYou thrive under autonomy, take initiative, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.\r\nYou're passionate about continuous learning and staying current with frontend technologies and AI tooling.\r\nEmployee Perks Enjoy a flexible work policy (with a work-from-home stipend to set you up for success!)\r\nOwn a piece of Deputy via our Employee Share Ownership Plan (ESOP)\r\nTake paid parental leave to support you and your family\r\nStay protected with Group Salary Continuance Insurance\r\nAccess support through our Employee Assistance Program\r\nEnjoy additional leave days — including study assistance, celebration days and volunteering\r\nJoin our global working groups focused on collaboration, belonging and connection\r\nGet creative at our annual Hackathons\r\nTake advantage of our novated leasing for electric vehicles, internet reimbursement and more!\r\nDeputy believes in equal opportunity and that inclusiveness and diversity promotes innovation.
