This position offers the opportunity to modernize a Java-based system by migrating from a traditional Apache Tomcat deployment to a cloud-native architecture built on Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, Angular, and modern software engineering practices. The ideal candidate is passionate about modern software engineering and enjoys modernizing existing enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, relational databases, and container technologies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence technical design decisions while helping shape the future architecture of a mission-critical system.\nAnalyze user and system requirements to design, develop, test, and maintain Java and Angular applications.\nDesign, develop, and support RESTful APIs, service integrations, and data access components for Oracle, PostgreSQL, and other relational databases.\nSupport application modernization initiatives, including Spring Boot migration, database modernization, microservices, and containerization.\nDeploy and support containerized applications in Kubernetes environments across cloud and on-premises infrastructure.\nParticipate in architecture reviews, code reviews, troubleshooting, technical design, and continuous process improvement.\nDevelop automated unit and integration tests, support CI/CD pipelines, and maintain technical documentation using Confluence and Jira.\nProvide backup database administration support for Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB while cross-training across application, database, and deployment technologies to ensure operational continuity.\nRequired Qualifications\nTS/SCI with Polygraph.\nBachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline from an accredited college or university.\nMinimum eight (8) years of software engineering experience on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience developing Java enterprise applications using Spring Boot (or similar frameworks) and Angular (or comparable front-end technologies).\nExperience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and integrating applications with Oracle, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, or other relational databases.\nExperience with application modernization, including Spring Boot migrations, microservices, and database modernization initiatives.\nExperience developing, deploying, and supporting containerized applications using Docker, Podman, and Kubernetes platforms (e.g., Rancher, Amazon EKS, OpenShift).\nFamiliarity with Kubernetes concepts including Deployments, Services, ConfigMaps, Secrets, Ingress, Persistent Volumes, Helm charts, and cloud-native architectures.\nExperience implementing GitLab CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, DevSecOps practices, and modern software delivery processes.\nExperience using Jira and Confluence in Agile environments, providing database operational support, and working with XML, JSON, or other structured data formats.\nAt Leidos, the opportunities are boundless.
