You'll own the reliability, performance, and architecture of our database estate across multiple technologies (relational, NoSQL, caching, time-series, and warehouse), and you'll be a standing voice in architectural and product decisions about how data is stored, moved, and consumed across the organization — not just called in after the design is finalized. You'll also own the health of our database environments themselves — debugging and improving the tooling, provisioning, and developer experience around data, so engineering teams can move fast without fighting the platform.\n\nIn this role, you'll be part of a team of engineers and technology experts, delivering mission-critical services that help our customers manage, protect, and maintain millions of endpoints and servers. You will have the opportunity to design and develop high-availability software systems that support our global operations.\n\nLocation - We are flexible on remote working from home, if you are located in the USA and reside in one of the following states - CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, *IL, KS, ME, MA, MD, NJ, NC, NY, OR, TN, TX, VA, OH and WA. We have physical offices in Austin, TX and Tampa, FL, if you prefer a hybrid option.\n\n** Onsite interviews may be required for this role.**\n\nWe hire the best software engineers, but experience in our stack can't hurt: NinjaOne is built on Java, Kotlin, C++, Golang and Postgres, supporting millions of user endpoints and running as a scalable cloud service in AWS. Knowing large-scale datastore bottlenecks, asynchronous application design and client-server architecture is crucial for this role.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nOwn architectural and lifecycle decisions for the data domain — technology selection, deprecation, capacity planning, and long-term platform direction — as a standing collaborator with Architecture, not an implementer brought in after decisions are made\n\nDesign, operate, and evolve database platforms across multiple technologies: relational, or equivalent time-series stores and data warehouse systems\n\nPartner with Architecture and Engineering on product and feature decisions that touch data — schema design, access patterns, scalability tradeoffs — early in the design process\n\nDebug and resolve environment and developer-experience issues across database tooling, provisioning, and local/CI data infrastructure — reduce friction for engineering teams working with data\n\nCollaborate with Architecture on expanding the technology footprint of the data platform — evaluating and onboarding new database and storage technologies as product needs evolve\n\nMaintain overall health of database environments: performance, availability, disaster recovery, backup/retention, and security controls across the estate\n\nOptimize performance, indexing, query plans, and storage/compute configuration across heterogeneous data stores\n\nAutomate provisioning, backup, and lifecycle management; integrate database changes into CI/CD\n\nLead migrations, version upgrades, and technology transitions with minimal disruption\n\nMaintain audit logs, schema versioning, and change tracking for regulatory traceability (SOC 2, FedRAMP, HIPAA as applicable)\n\nDocument architecture decisions, operational runbooks, and platform standards for both technical and non-technical audiences\n\nRequired Qualifications\n\n8+ years in database engineering/administration, including 3+ years operating more than one database technology in production.\n\nDemonstrated experience influencing architecture or product decisions involving data — not solely operating systems designed by others\n\nDeep expertise in at least one relational engine plus working fluency in NoSQL caching.\n\nExperience with time-series data stores and data warehouse platforms (Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, or similar)\n\nStrong cloud-native experience (AWS preferred) — RDS/Aurora, managed NoSQL, IAM, encryption, networking for data services\n\nProficiency in scripting/automation and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation)\n\nTrack record of debugging developer-facing environment issues, not just production incidents\n\nStrong troubleshooting using logs, metrics, and query analysis across varied storage engines\n\nExcellent written and verbal communication — able to represent the data domain in cross-functional architecture discussions\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\nExperience with containerized/orchestrated database deployments (Kubernetes, Fargate)\n\nCross-cloud data platform experience (GCP, Azure)\n\nExposure to distributed systems and data partitioning strategies at scale\n\nPrior role explicitly scoped as \"data platform engineer,\" \"database reliability engineer,\" or similar hybrid title (vs. pure DBA)\n\nExperience building or maintaining internal developer tooling/self-service around data infrastructure\n\nAbout Us\n\nNinjaOne automates the hardest parts of IT to deliver visibility, security, and control over all endpoints for more than 30,000 customers. The NinjaOne automated endpoint management platform is proven to increase productivity, reduce security risk, and lower costs for IT teams and managed service providers. NinjaOne is obsessed with customer success and provides free and unlimited onboarding, training, and support. NinjaOne is #1 on G2 in endpoint management, patch management, remote monitoring and management, and mobile device management.\n\nWhat You’ll Love\n\nWe are a collaborative, kind, and curious community.\n\nWe honor your flexibility needs with full-time work that is hybrid remote.\n\nWe have you covered with our comprehensive benefits package, which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance.\n\nWe help you prepare for your financial future with our 401(k) plan.\n\nWe prioritize your work-life balance with our unlimited PTO.\n\nWe reward your work with opportunity for growth and advancement.\n\nAdditional Information\n\nThis position is NOT eligible for Visa sponsorship.\n\n*Due to operational policies, NinjaOne is unable to hire for this role within the city limits of Chicago. We will consider all qualified candidates who reside outside of the city proper or are willing to self-relocate.\n\nStarting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to location, market demands, experience, job-related knowledge, and skills. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage and PTO. For roles based in California, Colorado, New Jersey or Washington the base salary hiring range for this position is $160,000 to $210,000 per year.\n\nFor roles based in New York, the base salary hiring range for this position is $160,000 to $210,000 per year.\n\nAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, marital status, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable law.
