As part of the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) Software Engineering team, this engineer contributes to the design, implementation, testing, and sustainment of modeling and simulation systems that enable Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) Fleet training. This position is eligible for hybrid work.\n\nThis role involves developing and maintaining robust, scalable software; integrating simulation systems across distributed architectures; and collaborating with developers, systems engineers, and subject matter experts to meet Navy training objectives. The Software Engineer 3 works under general direction, independently determining and developing approaches to solutions that contribute to successful project and program execution.\n\nEssential Job Responsibilities\nDesign, develop, document, test, and debug applications software and distribute simulation systems containing logical and mathematical solutions.\nContribute to the enhancement, integration, and sustainment of NTB products including JSAF, JBUS, RAVE, ERM, MDS, NEXUS, JMAC, CS3, and ATD.\nPerform development on Red Hat Linux platforms using Java, JavaScript (ExtJS/Vue), shell scripting, and modern IDEs such as IntelliJ or Eclipse.\nWork with technical leads and end users to implement maintainable, effective, and secure software capabilities aligned with Fleet training requirements.\nApply modeling and simulation techniques and domain protocols, including TENA, HLA, and DIS, to support distributed training systems.\nConduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with hardware/system designers to support the planning and development of electronic data processing systems.\nAnalyze user needs and system capabilities to resolve issues related to program intent, input/output requirements, and programming techniques.\nPrepare operating instructions, assist in writing technical documentation, and support the creation of proposals, briefings, and user manuals.\nEnsure software standards, cybersecurity guidelines, and NCTE architecture requirements are met.\nWork is performed in an office environment typical for software engineering roles. May require on-site support at NCTE facilities.\nMinimum Qualifications\n5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.\nComplete understanding and wide application of software engineering principles, concepts, and best practices.\nProficiency in Java programming, OO design, debugging tools, and development within Linux environments.\nExperience with multithreaded development and Java-focused IDEs such as IntelliJ or Eclipse.\nFamiliarity with Git for software configuration management.\nStrong communication skills and ability to work in collaborative team environments.\nAbility to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.\nPreferred Requirements\nExperience with JUnit, Agile development methods, and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, SonarQube).\nExperience with JavaScript development, including ExtJS, Vue.js, and web technologies.\nFamiliarity with TENA, HLA, DIS protocols or other M&S interoperability frameworks.\nExperience with scripting languages, databases, cryptographic log-on, and secure coding standards (DISA ASD STIG).\nExposure to C/C++ or C4I systems.\n\nThe listed salary range for this role is intended as a good faith estimate based on the role's location, expectations, and responsibilities.
