This role will be part of an agile development team, building and working on our Distributed Engineering Workstation (DEW) product.\nThis team is responsible for the development of an integrated platform designed for engineers and system operators of electric systems to aggregate and analyze data. They maintain cutting edge algorithms for power flow in electrical systems used by electrical and power system engineers to assess their electrical grid's status and plan future load needs to support renewable energy technology like solar and electric vehicles. A successful candidate will work with our skilled team to develop innovative solutions and maintain our existing software, to meet our Members' needs.\nLearn more about DEW here.\nEssential Functions:\nSoftware Development: Design and build responsive desktop applications specifically for electrical engineering applications, ensuring that solutions are robust and scalable.\nFeature Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including product managers, quality assurance, and support staff—to research, design, and implement new features tailored to electrical engineering needs.\nIssue Resolution: Research, analyze, and resolve moderately complex customer issues and bugs related to electrical engineering applications.\nTesting: Perform unit testing and integration testing of code to ensure high-quality software delivery.\nDevelopment Practices: Adhere to established software development methodologies and procedures, and continuously seek to improve development practices.\nOther duties as assigned.\nDesired Experience and Skills Preferred:\nExperience:\n8+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on developing solutions for technical fields such as electrical engineering.\nExposure to distributed systems or data-intensive applications.\nFamiliarity with optimization algorithms\nFamiliarity with iterative methods for solving nonlinear systems\nPreferred Additional Experience:\nFamiliarity with power flow algorithms.\nExperience in the electric utility or energy industry.\nFamiliarity with GIS, network modeling, or engineering analysis tools.\nTechnologies:\nProficient in C++ and C#.\nExperience with Java or other Object-Oriented languages.\nKnowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL or Oracle.\nKnowledge of or experience with Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering, preferred.\nDevelopment Practices:\nExperience with asynchronous workflows and patterns.\nKnowledge of web trends, architecture, and deployment patterns.\nProficiency with Git, including branching and merging workflows.\nExperience with Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Bamboo.\nKeep up with technology trends and innovations in your field of practice.\nCommitment to NISC's Shared Values.\nWork Schedule:\nHybrid from the following office location:\nBlacksburg, VA\nCedar Rapids, IA\nLake Saint Louis, MO\nMandan, ND\nHybrid Schedule: Minimum of working 3 days per week out of an office location and ability to work up to all 5 days a week from an office location.\nRequired Days from an Office Location: Tuesday and Wednesday – the third required day will be up to the candidate and their supervisor to choose.\nNISC's Shared Values & Competencies:\nWe're a cooperative, which means we're owned by the Members we serve.
