Our client, a growing construction company in South Jersey, is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting, payroll, financial reporting, and compliance functions.\nThis is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a highly visible role, enjoys working directly with ownership, and wants to make a meaningful impact within a successful, expanding business. As the company's accounting leader and a department of one, you'll manage everything from day-to-day accounting to strategic financial reporting while serving as a trusted advisor to leadership.\nPlease note: The position will begin in the company's Philadelphia office for approximately 3-4 months before permanently relocating to its new South Jersey headquarters. While the role is based in Philadelphia, candidates will have the option to work from home 2-3 days per week.\nWhat You'll Do\nLead the Company's Accounting Function\nManage the full accounting cycle, including general ledger maintenance, month-end and year-end close, and financial statement preparation.\nProduce timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.\nReconcile bank accounts, credit cards, loans, and all balance sheet accounts.\nOversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and collections.\nDrive Construction Accounting & Job Costing\nMaintain accurate job costing and monitor project profitability throughout the project lifecycle.\nTrack work-in-progress schedules, contract values, retainage, and change orders.\nReview subcontractor invoices and ensure all required compliance documentation is received prior to payment.\nPartner with project managers to provide job cost reporting, budget analysis, and financial insight.\nPayroll & Union Reporting\nProcess weekly payroll for both office and field employees.\nPrepare Certified Payroll Reports for prevailing wage projects.\nComplete union payroll reporting, fringe benefit filings, and contribution payments accurately and on schedule.\nEnsure compliance with collective bargaining agreements, prevailing wage requirements, and payroll regulations.\nReconcile payroll deductions, union benefit payments, and employee earnings records.\nFinancial Planning & Compliance\nAssist ownership with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis.\nCoordinate annual reviews and tax preparation with the company's outside CPA firm.\nPrepare sales tax filings, annual 1099 reporting, and other required regulatory filings.\nMaintain contractor licenses, insurance documentation, and compliance records.\nSupport financial, payroll, workers' compensation, and union-related audits.\nBanking & Cash Management\nMonitor daily cash balances and forecast cash flow needs.\nProcess ACH payments, wire transfers, deposits, and online banking transactions.\nMaintain banking relationships and help optimize cash management processes.\nWhat We're Looking For\nBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred\n5+ years of progressive accounting experience within the construction industry\nStrong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting\nExperience processing Certified Payroll Reports is preferred\nHands-on experience with union payroll reporting, fringe benefits, and prevailing wage compliance\nStrong understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting\nExcellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently\nStrong communication skills and the confidence to work directly with ownership and operational leadership\nDetail-oriented with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset\nPay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year\nBenefits:\n401(k)\n401(k) matching\nDental insurance\nDisability insurance\nHealth insurance\nLife insurance\nPaid time off\nVision insurance\nWork Location: In person","company":"Firstprophiladelphia","rawCompany":"firstprophiladelphia","city":"Maple Shade","state":"NJ","isRemote":false,"isActive":false,"createdAt":"2026-08-03T17:12:12.507Z","occupations":[{"code":"13-2011.00","title":"Accountants and Auditors","slug":"accountants-and-auditors"},{"code":"11-3031.01","title":"Treasurers and Controllers","slug":"treasurers-and-controllers"},{"code":"11-9021.00","title":"Construction Managers","slug":"construction-managers"}],"industries":[{"code":"236220","title":"Commercial and Institutional Building Construction","slug":"commercial-and-institutional-building-construction"},{"code":"237990","title":"Other Heavy and Civil Engineering Construction","slug":"other-heavy-and-civil-engineering-construction"},{"code":"238990","title":"All Other Specialty Trade Contractors","slug":"all-other-specialty-trade-contractors"}],"jobPosting":{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"JobPosting","title":"Construction Controller","description":"Are you a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys owning the entire financial operation?
