We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.\nThis Staff Embedded Software Engineer works independently on the design, development, and maintenance of embedded firmware for an innovative and exciting new venture investigating and commercializing novel technologies and biomarkers that will give people and the professionals who treat them new insights into their health, physical and mental performance. They will work independently on identifying new technologies for implementation into new product development and process improvement for both commercial and medical products. This person also exercises independent judgment in identifying, recommending, and implementing significant and/or complex new tools/process improvements to support the sensor technology that helps people understand what their body is telling them and how they can translate these insights into meaningful action so that they can lead a healthier life.\nWhat you’ll work on\nLead software development, verification, and validation; responsible for on-time delivery of high-quality embedded software products that meet budgetary objectives.\nDesign and implement software in current programming languages (e.g. C, C++, C#, python), practical experience with embedded C development.\nIdentifies parameters, structure, and critical test components. Writes, updates, or executes test design, cases, as well as procedures and reports results.\nWorking from requirement specifications, develops, maintains, and updates detailed design and interface specifications.\nParticipates in and supports the implementation, development, enhancements, and modifications to software source code, scripts, and procedures.\nDebugs, troubleshoots, and isolates software problems as well as offers strategic solutions, analysis, and advice regarding identified issues for future development\nAssist in the evaluation of selected designs through testing and full documentation of the results.\nWorking on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.\nExercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.\nContributes to and supports gathering, analyzing, and validating requirements;\nContributes to and supports writing, updating, developing and maintaining Hazard/Risk analysis specifications;\nContributes to and supports root-cause analysis of failures\nParticipate in software development, verification and validation following the guidance of software lead.\nFollow approved Design Control procedures for software development in accordance with FDA guidelines.\nSupport all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.\nAt this level, it is expected the candidate will have proficiency in software implementation.\nInteracts with QA engineers to ensure that software products are robust and of very high quality.\nActively participates in product development teams for the development of new products and services.\nReadily adjusts priorities and works within team environment for timely completion of common objectives for multiple projects.\nResolve significant and/or complex technical issues to empowering health through breakthrough technology.\nUp to 15% travel may be necessary\n\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent. MS desired\n8 to 15 years experience in software engineering required. Some experience in software engineering management\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\nExpert knowledge in current programming languages (e.g., C, C++, C#, Python etc.)\nExpert knowledge with current development tools (IDEs, debuggers, unit test frameworks and source control management).\nExperience with software testing.\nExperience with software development life cycle processes.\nGood knowledge of software engineering principles are required.\nDemonstrated success in technical proficiency, creativity, and independent thought.\nExperience with structured software development and/or Object Modeling Design experience required.\nExperience with software development of embedded systems for safety-critical products required.\nStrong debugging techniques and experience on using debugger in an embedded environment is required.\nExcellent troubleshooting skills are a must.\nKnowledgeable of microprocessor architecture is required.\nAbility to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities\nDemonstrated ability in providing guidance to junior team members.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nSolid knowledge of design controls and regulations for medical device development, (EN460001, ISO13485, FDA) is desirable.\nExperience in model-based design (UML or SysML), is highly desirable.\nCross-platform development experience is preferred.\nDetailed experience with medical device development processes and FDA 510K and PMA regulatory requirement and process is desirable.\nGood knowledge of and experience in RF and WiFi software design, device driver configuration, and test is preferred.\nExperience with Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low-Energy is highly preferred.\nExperience with Source Control Management is highly preferred.\nExperience with testing of embedded devices is a strong plus.\n\nWhat We Offer\nAt Abbott, you can have a good job that can grow into a great career.
