2026 Summer School Special Education Tier 3 Paraprofessional
The 2026 Summer School session will run Monday - Thursday, first session beginning June 1 and ending June 25, second session beginning July 6 and ending July 23.PARAPROFESSIONAL - SPECIAL EDUCATION TIER 3, ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, OR HIGH SCHOOLQUALIFICATIONS:A minimum of thirty-six college hours from an accredited college or university is required.A valid Missouri Teaching Certificate is preferred.Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.REPORTS TO: Building Principal, Executive Director - Special EducationDirect Supervisor: Special Education Classroom TeacherJOB GOAL:To assist with a teacher, group of teachers, or throughout the building to provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.Assists with the supervision of students at all times and including emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.Keeps bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up-to-date.Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and story-telling.Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher.Checks and records student attendance.Help students with clothing when necessary and appropriate.Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.Serve as a substitute for the teacher, as assigned or required, on an emergency basis.Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentially of information about students as is expected of a fully licensed teacher.Assists students in self-monitoring strategies, de-escalation techniques, navigating environment and assistive technology devicesMaintains up-to-date data on student goals and progressAssists students with minimal bathroom needs and minimal feeding needsBecomes CPR certified and First Aid TrainingTrains in Medication Administration including administration of EPI PENAssists students with toileting and diaperingAssists students with transferring and lifting of studentsDemonstrates a basic understanding of Chronic Health ConditionsDemonstrates knowledge of the following: medical assessment education (knows when to call the nurse), Diabetic Management Training and Personal Protective Equipment, following all safety protocolsDemonstrates understanding of student needs (wheelchairs, assistive technology devices, etc.)Assists students while they are experiencing crisisAssists teachers while they are working with students in crisis situationsMANDT TrainedAble to implement Tier 3 Behavior Intervention PlansAssists with implementing Board policy as it relates to seclusion and restraintAdheres to all safe room proceduresCollects accurate data related to safe room proceduresParticipates on crisis response teamDirect instruction to reinforce skills related to IEP goalsData collection for IEP GoalsDemonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.Adheres to good safety practices.Adheres to all district rules, regulations, and policies.Other duties as required or assigned.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities.
