The School to Work Specialist position provides on-site vocational rehabilitation services and case management to area high school students with moderate to severe disabilities. Additionally, during summer months, this position delivers a continuum of highly individualized career exploration, assessment, planning, and consultation. These services are a combination of referrals (fee for service) and contracted programming. This position will be responsible for specific annual billing goals. This position may require up to 20% travel to other locations in Michigan. This position requires some travel in the Lansing/Flint/Charlotte area.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide case management and vocational support services to special education students participating in paid work and employment training at Peckham
Provide intensive one-on-one job training assistance to clients to help them learn new jobs, enhance their skills on existing jobs and/or become an independent, competent, and confident part of their workplace; support the employee with establishing natural supports and developing and strengthening interpersonal skills in the work environment
Maintain positive relationships and communicate effectively all work related professionals such as Vocational Services Specialists, supervisors, referral sources, and operations management;
Utilize team approach and collaboration with both internal and external resources to maximize service outcomes for each referred participant
Provide direct feedback and training to clients regarding work readiness, work behaviors, and work skills
Document client progress in case notes and provide professional quality progress reports to staff and supervisors
Process time sheets and attendance tracking
Implement crisis intervention procedures for clients
Provide individualized Career Planning and Consultation services to participants referred from internal and external referral sources (primarily during summer months); arrange and supervise situational assessments as needed with area employers for such purpose
Assist with tours, information sessions, intake and onboarding for new referrals
Maintain case files and database for program participants
Obtain and assess baseline information in order to develop and implement individualized rehabilitation plans
Interpret results of individualized program plans and communicate progress toward program objectives to team members, referring teachers, guardians, and other involved parties verbally and in writing
Perform detailed job analyses and make recommendations for accommodations as appropriate
Develop meaningful and practical vocational and ancillary recommendations for the referred participants and write final summary reports to clearly record such information
Conform to all relevant CARF standards

Assist in maintaining organizational wide quality standards
Other related duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop a unified team that reflects Peckham’s culture and values
Provide mentorship and coaching
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of four years related experience and/or training;
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows programs
Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language and manner.
CPR and First Aid certification required but may be obtained after hire.
Ability to administer, score, and interpret a variety of tests and work samples
Must pass and maintain criminal background checks.
Must have access to reliable transportation for trips off site as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree (M.A.) in a related field
LLMSW/LMSW – Limited License Master of Social Work; Licensed Master of Social Work, State of Michigan
L.P.C. ‑ Licensed Professional Counselor, State of Michigan
C.R.C. ‑ Certified Rehabilitation Counselor
