Tax Manager

The Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing all tax-related accounting, compliance, andreporting activities for Good Food Holdings. This role leads both indirect and direct taxfunctions, ensuring accurate and timely filings, strong internal controls, and compliance withfederal, state, and local tax regulations.The Tax Manager partners closely with Accounting, Finance, Payroll, Operations, and externaltax advisors to support ongoing tax strategy, tax planning, reporting, and audit activities in amulti-entity, multi-state retail environment. This role also provides leadership, guidance, andreview of tax processes while identifying opportunities for efficiency and risk mitigation.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesIncludes the following duties (others may be assigned):Tax Compliance & ReportingOversee the preparation and filing of indirect tax returns, including sales and use tax,gross receipts tax, excise and spirits taxes, and other state and local tax filings, as well aspersonal property tax returns.Review and approve income tax provisions, returns, extensions, and estimated paymentsprepared internally or by external providersOversee payroll tax filings and reconciliations in coordination with Payroll and third-partyprovidersOwn and maintain the tax calendar to ensure timely and accurate filings and paymentsEnsure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulationsTax Accounting & ReconciliationsOversee and review tax-related general ledger accounts, including sales tax payable,prepaid taxes, and accrualsLead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes related to tax accountsReview tax-related journal entries and supporting schedulesMonitor tax balances, identify variances, and ensure timely resolutionAudit & Regulatory OversightLead sales tax audits, income tax audits, and other regulatory inquiriesCoordinate responses to tax notices and correspondence with internal stakeholders andexternal advisorsEnsure timely and accurate delivery of audit documentation and support schedulesResearch & Process ImprovementResearch tax regulations and legislative changes; evaluate impact and communicateimplications to leadershipDevelop, implement, and maintain tax policies, procedures, and internal controlsIdentify and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and complianceLeadership & Team DevelopmentProvide guidance, training, and oversight to Tax Accountants and/or other accountingstaff involved in tax processesReview work performed by team members and external providers to ensure accuracy andcompletenessServe as a subject matter expert for tax-related matters across the organizationCross-Functional PartnershipPartner with Accounting, Finance, Merchandising, Operations, and Payroll to support tax-relatedquestions and initiativesSupport new store openings, business initiatives, and system implementations from a taxperspectiveCollaborate with external tax advisors, auditors, and consultants as neededParticipate in special projects and strategic initiatives as assignedQualificationsTo perform this job successfully, the candidate must satisfactorily perform each essential duty.The requirements below reflect the knowledge, skill, and ability expected for this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field requiredCPA required or strongly preferredMinimum 6–8 years of tax or public accounting experience, including progressiveresponsibilityPrior experience reviewing work and/or leading tax processes preferredExperience in retail, grocery, or multi-location environments preferredStrong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local tax regulationsTechnical & Professional SkillsAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systemsExperience with ERP systems; tax compliance software strongly preferredStrong analytical, research, and problem-solving skillsExcellent attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environmentStrong communication skills with the ability to translate technical tax concepts into business termsSalary Range: $135,000 - $150,000
