UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.\n\nSummary\nThe Staff Engineer is a key role responsible for working closely with various personnel in the Construction Services Department to ensure the department runs as smoothly as possible. The ideal candidate is a reliable, trustworthy individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment where collaboration and autonomy are valued.\n\nQualifications\nTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.\n\nPhysical Demands & Work Environment\nRequired to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear; body motions and movements include bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing, with or without reasonable accommodation\nThe employee must regularly lift and/or move up to thirty-five pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to seventy-five pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation\nJob site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle, including wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles\nThis job is primarily performed in an office setting, but field visits may be required where regular exposure to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities:\nAnalyzes reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design project\nCalculates cost and determines the feasibility of the project based on analysis of collected data\nPrepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, testing schedules, and designs for the project\nInspects construction sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering test plans, specifications, and safety standards\nWorks closely with the laboratory personnel to ensure projects, test results, and similar elements of the Construction Services Department are being addressed properly and thoroughly\nDirects where necessary activities at the project site\nUses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents\nEnsure that all testing equipment used is functioning properly, maintained as required by company and/or manufacturer's policy and that all calibrated equipment is within its calibration cycle\nEnsure that project testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures\nComplete daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policy\nTurn in required paperwork daily\nRegular attendance is required\nMust be flexible to changing schedules and hours to support business needs. Overnight and weekends schedules may be necessary to support business needs\nFollow all company safety procedures and policies\nOther duties may be assigned\nRequired Qualifications:\nValid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)\nAbility to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)\nEngineering Intern (E.I.) Certification\nBachelor’s degree (B.S.) in civil or geotechnical engineering from a four-year college or university; one to two years of experience and/or training\nAbility to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients\nComputer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports\nMathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals\nReasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form\nPreferred Qualifications:\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills\nAbility to work both independently and as part of a team\nWillingness to travel to project sites as required\nAbility to perform fieldwork, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, rough terrain, and physical labor, including lifting and handling equipment\nWho We Are:\nUES provides essential engineering services for some of the most prominent and significant projects in the nation.
