This role is essential to the successful operations of the Compton Roofing and Asphalt site. The Utility operator is an hourly position reporting to the Front Line Leader on his/her assigned shift.\n\nThe hourly rate for this position is $22.07. Safety is a condition of employment.\nParticipates in the safety, quality, autonomous maintenance, TPM and 5S process as established within the plant: including but not limited to Focus Improvement events, Safety Committee, etc.\nParticipates in safety, quality, and housekeeping programs established at the plant.\nNotifies appropriate personal of any equipment malfunction, abnormalities and safety issues.\nUnderstands and utilizes process stops and emergency stops when necessary.\nUnderstand and perform the duties of a utility operator.\nUnderstands quality & production metrics; fills out required checklists, and turns in to appropriate personnel\nCommunicates and reacts to material not meeting quality & production standards.\nMaintains strong communication with appropriate line section operators to ensure immediate action is taken for product out of spec.\nInspects products and takes corrective actions. Detects all defects, job changes and splices. Communicates to supervisor and team.\nAssists Auto-catcher Operator on catcher jams, conveyor jams, and other tasks at the area.\nEnsures bundles are stacked properly exiting auto catchers and proper count of each bundle.\nSorts first quality material and seconds quality material. Removes all off-quality shingles from the production line and pallets, including mat splice and release tape splices.\nRewraps bundles that need new wrapping.\nResponsible for supplying sealant to sealant system and maintaining scrap material.\nAssists Palletizer operator fix crooked bundles and jammed pallets.\nAssists wrapper operator in changing wrapper rolls, making wrapper splices, clearing bundle jams, and other tasks when necessary.\nTrains to relieve/cover Auto Catcher operator and other machine operators when necessary.\nAssists other areas with mat/sheet lace-up, splices, cleaning, and other tasks when needed.\nCompletes assigned planned maintenance orders and assist mechanics when needed.\nDemonstrates flexibility to changing priorities as business needs dictate.\nEstablishes goals, prioritizes and organizes actions, timelines and resources.\nUnderstands the needs of the customer and takes action to address those needs.\nActs decisively and shows a strong sense of urgency to ensure follow through of established goals.\nIdentifies and participates proactively in learning opportunities, and develops expertise in those areas.\nEnsures standard operating procedures and processes are in place.\nPerforms other related duties consistent with the nature of this position, as directed by the operator’s supervisor.\n\nJOB REQUIREMENTS\nEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE\nHigh school diploma or equivalent required\nTwo or more year of relevant work experience preferred\nBasic computer proficiency required\nMust be 18 years or older\nMust be a US citizen or have the right to work in the US\nMust be drug and alcohol free\n\nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES\nMust read, write and speak English\nMust understand verbal and written instructions\nMust possess strong communication and organizational skills\nMust multi-task\nMust have strong internal and external customer service skills\nMust work well in a team environment\nMust be self-motivated to work independently and in a group, and meet targets\nMust perform basic mathematical calculations\nMust be able to read prescribed measuring devices\nMust have strong attention to detail\nMust train and coach others\nMust have strong process acumen\nMust have thorough understanding of product quality standards\nMust maintain schedule flexibility to ensure smooth production\nMust operate necessary software to successfully perform job responsibilities\nMust be able to think and work under pressure and analyze information to identify solutions\nMust have and execute with sense of urgency\n\nADDITIONAL REQUIRED TRAINING\nAll annual safety and role specific training, as required by the nature of this position\n\nThis job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee(s) incumbent in this position.
