The Quarterdeck Host
A Host/Hostess presents a positive first impression of the establishment’s friendliness, excellent service and high standards. The Host/Hostess also greet Guests upon arrival, inform Guests of their wait time, monitor a waiting list, enter Guest names into the computer system, show Guests to their table and bid Guests farewell as they leave. As a member of an energetic team, the Host/Hostess may also need to answer the phones and fill to-go orders when needed.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesGreet incoming and departing Guests warmly with a genuine smile and eye contact; escort them to assigned dining area; present menus; announce waiter's nameUse visual cues to seat Guests in either the bar or dining area depending on their preferenceInform Guest of current promotion and who will be serving them to ensure a smooth handoff to the service staffAdhere to all posted opening/closing side work duties as it relates to position.Attend Pre-shift at designated timeBe aware of daily specialsBe knowledgeable of all menu items, their garnish, contents and preparation methods and be prepared to answer any guest questions about the menu in a direct, concise way. Be knowledgeable of Sea Pines Resort standards as it applies to beverage service.Memorize table numbers, station numbers, and contents of stations as they apply to the number of servers working. Memorize pivot points of each guest at each table.Exhibit a sense of teamwork, pride and confidence at all times, be friendly and smile with the guests as well as with other employees.Become familiar with all special coupons, discounts and payments accepted at the resort and how to process them through MICROS.Have thorough understanding of hours of operations for all Sea Pines Resort outlets as well as entertainment and special event schedules.Become proficient in cash handling and ‘point of sale’ check administration as well as become familiar on how to process ‘to go’ orders.Become familiar with all Restaurant Daily paperwork as it applies to the operation of each shift.Each employee is expected to carry out all reasonable requests by management, which the employee is capable of performing.EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCEPrevious experience serving customers either in a restaurant or banquet setting.1-4 years education at the high school level or equivalent education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.6 months experience in a full-service restaurant preferred
