This role supports high-judgment accounting matters in a fast-growing, transaction-heavy environment and partners closely with accounting leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.This position is ideal for someone with a strong technical foundation who enjoys applying accounting guidance to real-world transactions and helping scale reporting practices in a sophisticated organization.The RoleThe Technical Accounting Manager will focus on complex accounting areas including business combinations, equity-based compensation, and other non-routine transactions requiring interpretation of U.S. GAAP. Reporting into senior accounting leadership, this role plays a key part in ensuring consistent application of accounting standards, strong documentation, and audit-ready conclusions.The role also supports select areas of monthly reporting and broader financial reporting initiatives as the organization continues to evolve and grow.Core ResponsibilitiesTechnical Accounting & ResearchResearch, interpret, and document accounting conclusions for complex transactions under U.S. GAAPPrepare and maintain technical accounting memos and position papersMonitor new accounting standards and assist with implementation effortsAcquisitions & Purchase AccountingSupport accounting for acquisitions, including identification and valuation of assets and liabilitiesAssist with goodwill, intangible assets, and measurement period adjustmentsPartner with finance, strategy, and external specialists on transaction accountingEquity & Compensation AccountingSupport accounting for equity-based compensation arrangementsReview award terms, modifications, forfeitures, and settlementsCoordinate with internal partners to ensure accurate valuation and expense recognitionReporting & Close SupportAssist with complex close areas, including cash flow analysis and judgmental reporting itemsSupport preparation of financial statement disclosures related to technical accounting areasHelp improve consistency and accuracy in reporting processesAudit & Cross-Functional CollaborationPrepare audit support and respond to external auditor inquiriesPartner with legal, HR, FP&A, and other teams to assess accounting implications of transactionsContribute to disclosure controls, documentation standards, and reporting readiness initiativesBackground & ExperienceCPA required5–8 years of progressive accounting experienceMix of public accounting and/or technical accounting experience strongly preferredStrong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including business combinations and equity accountingExperience preparing technical accounting documentation and supporting auditsStrong analytical thinking and written communication skillsWhat This Role OffersExposure to complex, high-impact accounting mattersClose partnership with senior accounting leadershipOpportunity to influence accounting policy, documentation, and reporting qualityCollaborative, cross-functional environmentHybrid work model in the Chicago areaWho Will Succeed HereTechnically curious and detail-orientedComfortable working through ambiguity and judgment-heavy issuesAble to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environmentClear communicator who can explain technical concepts to varied audiencesCollaborative, pragmatic, and solutions-oriented
