DTJ’s Leaders each serve as a source of vision, bringing diverse backgrounds, market understanding, and enthusiasm for innovative and sustainable solutions. Leaders are directly involved in all stages of the design process. At DTJ, those in leadership are responsible for key aspects of DTJ’s practice in a meaningful way. This includes involvement with at least two of what we refer to as the “three legs of the stool” – a marketing responsibility, a design responsibility, and a business responsibility. The most highly compensated leaders have a role, if not a strength in all three. For this candidate search a strong marketing role is required.This position is open to a Landscape Architect, Land Planner, or Business Development executive. The ideal candidate will be well versed in a combination of Business Development and a design discipline.QualificationsThe ideal candidate will have 15-25 years of professional experienceComprehensive expertise in business development, project design, and project deliveryA portfolio showcasing award-winning built work, including projects that may extend beyond the Southeast or internationallyDemonstrated proficiency in client interaction and the cultivation of new client relationshipsProven track record in business development initiativesExtensive experience in studio leadership and professional mentorshipPossession of significant passion for artistry and design creativityStrong emphasis on organizational excellenceRelevant experience within one or more of DTJ’s core areas of focus is requiredA demonstrated capability to lead and inspire design professionalsMarketingRole Expectations:Leads business development and marketing tasks, proposal and contract preparation, and client communication. Facilitate repeat work and expanding scope, has awareness of Clients business plan and how DTJ can service their next phase or project.Participates in Client Interviews, in-person industry events and social media.Participates in Client Prospecting in association with other Associates or Principals. Is directly responsible for generating $1 million or more of new work annually. Over time this goal will be increased.LeadershipDemonstrate DTJ’s core values, inspiring others in the Southeast region and across the firm.Devises new approaches to problems encountered.Writes and directs complicated agreement scope and fees.Provide leadership with respective studio and administrative staff. Focus on quality and profitability of projects and training and growth of staff in their studio. Actively participates in marketing strategy and project pursuit for at least one market segment and/or location.Enthusiastically promotes and sustains DTJ Design’s culture.Business ManagementResponsible for ensuring successful project delivery across all projects that they are engaged with.Monitors financial performance of all projects. Participates in course correction strategies to ensure adequate profitability.Leads the landscape architecture / land planning practice in the southeast region, mentors staff and assists in staff development.Forecasts project volume and staffing needs, including overseeing staff utilization.
