The Public Safety Dispatcher receives and evaluates emergency 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls for assistance and service; determines location and required response needs from information obtained; dispatches appropriate police/fire/emergency medical response personnel. Also, Triages Emergency Medical calls (Using the PriorityDispatch EMD protocols), and records requests, monitors scanners, alarm systems, communications between agencies, location and condition of emergency response personnel, and provides updated information to facilitate operations. Accesses computer databases to obtain information, as well as maintain records. Will participate in ongoing training.High school diploma or equivalent is required. Preference will be given to those candidates who are interested in an eventual full-time Public Safety Dispatcher position when one becomes available with our agency. Prior public safety dispatching experience including Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Service is preferred. Certification in Emergency Medical Dispatching and CPR, is preferred.Must have the ability to deal well with the public, especially in an emergency situation, and multi-task during highly stressful police and fire incidents. Must have excellent computer and typing skills. Candidates must be willing to work all three shifts (day, evening, and overnight) including many weekends and holidays. Training will require a minimum of 24 hours per week in 8-hr shifts. Scheduling will be flexible. This is a per diem position; with a starting hourly rate of $27.51, plus a 7%-night shift differential for evening and overnight shifts.
