Requires caring, responsible, and empathetic person who will be involved in assisting the RNs with patient care in an ambulatory setting and to maintain working knowledge of surgical instruments, their care, maintenance, and cleaning. The Pre/Post Op Assistant/Sterilization Processing will be an advocate for the patient’s needs by collaborating with the patient and the surgery center team to ensure the patient is comfortable. . Must be able to recognize surgical equipment malfunction and be able to perform troubleshooting. Is aware of routine preventive maintenance and oversees surgical instruments on a routine basis. Must be aware of and utilize acceptable concepts of sterile technique and aseptic technique.\nDuties & Responsibilities:\nAssist the RNs with working up patients and preparing them for surgery.\nAssist patients by providing information, services, and assistance.\nVerifies patient information, enters, and updates data to maintain records and databases in an efficient, organized, and confidential manner; establishes and maintains files and records.\nAssist with discharging patients and giving them the information needed to follow after surgery.\nClean and disinfect the patient’s carts and other non-critical supplies used during surgery.\nStock sterile supply room.\nServe and protect the Surgery Center to maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following the standards and procedures and complying with legal and HIPPA regulations.\nCross-train and backup for the Sterilization Processor.\nAssist during surgeries operating the Phaco equipment.\nSets up and prepares autoclave for day's use - assures proper functioning and proper exposure specifications.\nChecks availability of sterile instruments for day's use.\nChecks sterile processing area and decontamination area for cleanliness prior to days scheduled cases.\nReceive, clean, and process instruments, equipment, and reusable supplies.\nEnsure that all items are free of any bio burden and neatly assemble them for use.\nEnsure that all instruments, supplies, and equipment are sterilized per manufacturer's recommendations for use as required.\nFollowing the conclusion of surgical cases, will assist the circulating R.N. in \"closing\" the O.R. including cleaning,restocking, preparation for the next day's O.R. cases, disposal of trash, soiled laundry bagged and removed and assuring the next day's IOL availability. The O.R. should be left neat, clean, and ready for immediate use.\nResponsible for compiling and sterilizing packs, instrument trays, packaging and wrapping necessary instruments and items necessary for certain procedures along with their sterilization.\nResponsible for end-of-week cleaning. Checks expiration dates on packages and wraps instruments and other items for sterilization.\nCheck expiration dates on instruments and supplies in OR and instruments upstairs monthly.\nPerforms miscellaneous job-related duties and tasks as assigned.\nRequired Skills/Qualifications:\nHigh School Diploma or GED required\nMedical Assistant, Nurse Assistant, or prior healthcare experience\nOne year sterile processing experience preferred\nMinimum one year of proven effective customer service skills with an exceptional ability to listen.\nGood written and problem-solving skills.\nAbility to effectively communicate with strong prioritization skills.\nAbility to follow verbal and written instructions; operate standard office equipment; and work well independently or as a team.\nCreate a safe, sterile, and effective work environment.\nMust be organized, professional, and be patient focused.\nMust adhere to HIPAA regulations by keeping patient information confidential.\nBasic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of employment.
