Global Health Leaders Internship Abroad: Global Public Health & Research OpportunitiesGlobal Health Leaders (GHL)is an international healthcare education and research firm dedicated to advancing accessible healthcare worldwide. We train and mentor the next generation of global healthcare leaders while providing essential medical services in rural communities facing extreme poverty.Internship Overview Our study abroad internships take place in theDominican Republic (and occasionally Belize) . All interns begin with theMedical Program , where they serve alongside licensed doctors in temporary rural clinics. Students then choose whether to participateonly in the Medical Programor to add on theResearch Trackfor deeper academic experience.Medical Internship (Core Internship) 8-week program: 7 weeks remote pre-departure training + 1 week in-country. Interns work in rural communities where families live on less than $5/day, often with no electricity, running water, or healthcare access. On-site responsibilities include: Assisting with intake, triage, vitals, pharmacy, and patient education. Supporting licensed physicians in providing screenings, evaluations, and basic treatments. Leading community health education sessions on hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention. No prior medical experience required. All training is provided.Optional Research Track (Medical + Research Internship) 16-week program: 15 weeks remote + 1 week in-country. Includes all Medical Program componentsplus : 1:1 and group mentoring fromHarvard-affiliated MD research advisors . Training in research methods, ethics, and protocol (HIPAA certification included). Literature reviews, data collection during clinic week, and remote project work. Goal of conference presentation or publication. Ideal for students inpublic health, biomedical sciences, healthcare research, or administration .Travel Dates (ONE of the following) – Dominican Republic Summer 2026 Jul 26–Aug 2, 2026 Aug 9–16, 2026 Aug 23–30, 2026 Winter 2026 Dec 27, 2026 – Jan 3, 2027Qualifications Current or prospective university student (all majors welcome; healthcare interest preferred, recent graduates ok). Strong communication, professionalism, and teamwork skills. Ability to adapt to challenging conditions. Background check required for research participants.Important Notes This is anunpaid internship .
