Assistant Professor of ArchitecturePosted on 9/2/2025Accepting applicationsAbout this positionThe School of Architecture (SoA) at Florida Southern College (FSC) invites applications for a 9-month, Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Architecture position beginning fall 2026. The successful candidate will contribute to building national and international recognition for the school and college and promote a collaborative culture for the mutual benefit of the institution and the internal/external communities it serves.Florida Southern College is home to the most extensive single-client collection of Frank Lloyd Wright-designed structures and landscapes worldwide. It provides an inspiring and fitting backdrop for the education of future architects. We seek candidates with experience teaching foundational design studios, lectures, and seminar courses at the undergraduate level. The School of Architecture exists to perpetuate Frank Lloyd Wright's vision of a more profound, graceful, thoughtful, and creative society by inspiring new generations to realize their full imaginative potential to become a catalyst for change.The School of Architecture offers a five-year Bachelor of Architecture degree. This new program was developed in 2024 and launched in August 2025. The curriculum is designed to meet National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), Inc. accreditation requirements and National Council of Architectural Registration Board education guidelines. Work toward initial candidacy and accreditation is ongoing.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe incumbent of this position reports directly to the Dean of the School of Architecture and is responsible for promoting the advancement of the mission and vision of Florida Southern College and the School of Architecture. Primary areas of responsibility include teaching, scholarship, and service to the school and college. The successful candidate will be expected to:Teach undergraduate courses in the School of ArchitectureAdvise and mentor students to promote student successDevelop and maintain a robust program of scholarly/creative work within the disciplineIncorporate scholarly/creative activities into the teaching environment including student- faculty collaborative activitiesEngage in service to the school, the college, the profession, and the communityParticipate in curriculum development, implementation, evaluation/assessment, and program improvementParticipate in initial and ongoing accreditation processes at the School and College levelParticipate in faculty governance by serving on program, school, and college committees and within workgroupsParticipate in the recruitment and selection of qualified faculty, staff, and mentorParticipate in the recruitment and admission of studentsParticipate in School of Architecture and College activities and celebrationsServe as a liaison and ambassador to engage professional practice and industry partnersSupport the learning needs and success of students from diverse backgroundsCollaborate within and across departments and schools within the College to promote the vision and goals of the CollegeContribute to the success of the College and the School of Architecture by performing other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of ArchitectureAbout our ideal candidate EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCEPossess a terminal degree in architecture (MArch) or DArch/PhD from a regionally accredited (or comparable) institutionPossess collaborative skills to work in a team settingAbility to manage tasks and processes including developing and implementing new course contentMaintain an active professional U.S. architectural licensure or NCARB Foreign Architect Path to CertificateDemonstrate three years of professional practice in architecture (Individuals with an earned doctorate in architecture or closely related field may receive credit for the equivalent of two years of professional experience).Ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators, conduct themselves professionally, and perform appropriate service functions at the department, school, and college levels.Demonstrated Excellent interpersonal, written, graphic, and oral communication skills.Demonstrate three years of successful teaching experience at the university or college levelDemonstrate scholarship and creative accomplishments in the field of designAbility to teach advanced design studio, lecture, and seminar coursesSkills and experience in the use of digital tools in architectural design and constructionKnowledge of, or integration of artificial intelligence in design applications, preferredAbout usThe College's health and wellness plans along with generous paid time-off benefits are in addition to rewarding employee benefits such as the tuition grant and 403(b) plan.The employee tuition grant is a remarkable benefit that covers the cost of 100% of the College's tuition for dependent children of faculty and staff who have been employed with the college fulltime for one year.
