The Group Exercise Instructor works under general supervision and provides quality leadership in the Group Exercise classes.\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:\nAbility to instruct, lead, & modify group exercise routines for a variety of fitness levels.\nAbility to perform safe & effective group exercise routines for a variety of fitness levels.\nAbility to motivate & encourage members towards a healthy lifestyle.\nServes as a positive role model for members.\nMaintains a supportive & positive class environment for members.\nAbility to communicate well.\nShows a genuine interest in developing positive, ongoing relationships with members.\nAbility to engage members by learning about their Y Story and sharing the story of the YMCA.\nFollows the YMCA personnel policies, practices, salary administration plan, emergency procedures and risk management procedures.\nAssists with all other essential tasks as requested.\n\nYMCA COMPETENCIES:\nRelationships: Builds authentic relationships in the service of enhancing individual and team performance to support the Y’s work.\nCommunication: Listens and expresses self effectively and in a manner that reflects a true understanding of the needs of the audience.\nDeveloping Others: Recognizes and acts on the need to continually develop others’ capabilities to attain the highest level of performance possible.\nInclusion: Values all people for their unique talents, and takes an active role in promoting practices that support diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence.\nInnovation: Participates in the generation, experimentation, and implementation of new approaches and activities that improve and expand the Y’s mission and work.\nQuality Results: Demonstrates and fosters a strong commitment to achieving goals in a manner that provides quality experiences.\n\nQUALIFICATIONS:\nCurrent CPR/First Aid certification.\nObtain AED and O2 certifications within 30 days of hire.\nExperience participating in group exercise classes.\nA basic knowledge of health & fitness; with an emphasis in aerobics.\nExperience leading group exercise classes at least 6months – 1 year.\nMust possess current Group Exercise certification, I.E Zumba, Cycle, Pilates, Yoga .\nWORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:\nThe employee must be able to perform a variety of physical movements including bending, stepping, cycling, pushing, pulling, stretching, and/ or holding specific positions based on the specific style of group exercise class they are assigned to teach.\nThe employee must be able to lift weights ranging in weight from 5 lbs to 25 lbs. The employee must be able to set-up weight &/or aerobic equipment for their specific class they are assigned to teach.\nBackground Check:\nOnce a conditional offer is made, candidates will be subject to criminal background check/fingerprinting, drug screen, and physical examinations where required.
