Working at the intersection of software engineering, cybersecurity, and environmental science, the developer helps drive continuous improvement while ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with Government software assurance standards.\n\nSuccess in this role is measured by the delivery of secure, high-performing software releases, proactive problem-solving, clean and sustainable code, minimal defects, and a strong commitment to supporting the mission through technology that users can trust and depend on.\nWhat You Will Do in This Role\nDevelops, modifies, tests, and maintains application software that supports operational flood forecasting capabilities.\nImplements secure coding practices throughout the software development lifecycle to ensure compliance with cybersecurity and software assurance requirements.\nDesigns and develops new application functionality based on technical and business requirements.\nIdentifies and remediates software vulnerabilities to strengthen application security and resilience.\nConducts code reviews to promote code quality, maintainability, and adherence to development standards.\nParticipates in threat modeling activities to identify and mitigate potential security risks.\nIntegrates and maintains automated testing tools and processes to improve software reliability and deployment readiness.\nCollaborates with engineering, cybersecurity, and stakeholder teams to deliver secure, high-quality software solutions.\nTroubleshoots and resolves software defects and performance issues in development and production environments.\nSupports software modernization initiatives by enhancing existing applications and implementing current development best practices.\n\nWhat You Will Bring\nBachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.\nStrong software engineering expertise combined with cybersecurity-focused development practices to deliver secure, reliable, and maintainable software solutions.\nCurrent and active CySA+ (IAT Level II) certification or Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP) certification.\nDemonstrates experience implementing secure software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, including security requirements integration, threat modeling, secure coding, testing, and release management.\nPerforms secure code modification activities, including implementing input validation, canonicalization controls, and other safeguards to prevent vulnerabilities such as injection attacks and buffer overflows.\nIdentifies, analyzes, and remediates software vulnerabilities while ensuring compliance with organizational and Government cybersecurity requirements.\nAddresses code quality issues, software defects, and security findings identified through tools such as SonarQube and other automated scanning platforms.\nEnsures timely remediation of critical software vulnerabilities and compliance with third-party software security and patch management policies.\nIntegrates cybersecurity activities into Agile development processes, including threat modeling during sprint planning, Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST), and penetration testing prior to production releases.\nUtilizes automated testing, code analysis, and security assessment tools to improve software quality, reliability, and security.\nApplies modern software development frameworks, tools, and cybersecurity controls to support the delivery of secure, mission-focused applications.\n\nImportant Note\nThis position is contingent upon contract award and funding.
